Mid range 5kw inverter thoughts?

Featured Replies

Looking for recommendations on a mid range 5kw to 6kw 48v inverter.

Deye / sunsynk are out of our budget atm.

We have solar assistant setup which has been working great so wifi enable inverters not critical unless it's got better choices and options than SA.

Our battery upgrade will most likely be 15cell or 16cell Svolt  battery. A nice upgrade from my diy 6 cell lifepo4 :)

Solar array we are thinking 6 panels right now with adding more later on. Would connecting in series be better to keep cable thinkness down? This would increase voltage as far as I remember so ideally an inverter would handle 300dc? Are there drawbacks here such has higher inverter costs for higher solar dc input?

We currently have a sunpays (axpert) 1.2kw inverter which has been fine so far (geewiz purchase) . I see Kodak, and a few others are rebranded axperts? Do some rebrands have better functionality than others? Wondering why all the rebrands?

Apologies this is turning out to be a bit long.

in considering the above what middle of the park inverters have people enjoyed and are decent value for money?

Excuse the mistakes in the above.

Tx

If Deye / Sunsynk is out of your budget then chances are the Solis S6 is out of your budget too?

Otherwise Luxpower is tried and tested and they work fairly well. For the price of the Luxpower, you're unlikely to get something with better value for money.

I'd go for the Luxpower over an Axpert / Axpert clone. If you really want to look at going for a cheaper inverter, then the Conderenergy are good from what I have heard but compared to the Luxpower you will loose some features and perhaps gain in some other areas though:

Regarding the panels, well, this also depends on which inverter you get. The Luxpower has a low current limit per MPPT (13A), so you need to pick panels according to the limit. You'd need to run the panels in series as parallel would increase the current too much for the Luxpower.

The Solis (and Deye / Sunsynk) have a higher current limit which provides more options.

Thanks.

I see geewiz has the conderenergy 5kw for R6500. Seems almost too good to be true.

PV specs seems good:

Nominal operating voltage: 240Vdc, Vmax PV: 500Vdc

PV input voltage range: 60-450Vdc, Imax PV: 27A

Full load MPPT range: 240-450Vdc

Rated Power: 6500W

Maximum Solar Charging Current: 120A

Would also lean towards Luxpower (the SNA5000) if on a budget.

Has a relatively wide range of battery comms support (can’t find a compatibility list for the Conderenergy) as well as an excellent 5 year warranty.
It’s also heavily tried-and-tested in SA.

The Conderenergy is undeniably well-priced/spec’ed, though.

@JayMardern thanks. Am leaning towards the luxpower. Spend a bit extra for piece of mind.

Did a bit of digging on conderenergy, it's a rebrand from a Chinese manufacturer. Not the best components obviously for that price.

The whole industry is based on Chinese re-brands: my own Sunsynk is just a Chinese Deye with a firmware-paint-job and a nice web-portal/app... in fact I even contacted Deye directly (using my Sunsynk model number no less!) with an aux-related query I had when paralleling my second unit to circumvent Sunsynk's mediocre support (and got a reply within a day - link here - and after doing what they recommended, it's worked perfectly.)

But yeah, at the price-point you probably aren't going to get really high quality from the Conderenergy - a slightly better warranty might instill a bit more confidence. Still, I'd be interested to hear real-world experiences from guys who are willing to take the plunge, since my previous inverter was a cheap Chinese Must re-badge and other than not charging at the rate claimed by the spec sheet (a deal-breaker for Stage 6 load shedding), it otherwise served us really well for 7 years (and still remains on standby for emergencies to this day!).

Several of my family members and colleagues (as well as tons of forum users here) are happily using Luxpower units (the SNA5000 is an excellent performer for the price, both on-paper and in the real-world), on a budget you won't go wrong. And if you do? That's where that generous 5 year warranty comes into play...
