Optimal settings for Synsynk 5kw + 2 x 5.32 Sunsynk batteries during winter in the Western Cape

Featured Replies

I would like to know what would be the most economical system mode settings for the above setup.

I have 12 x 550w panels, north facing, and my average evening use is 650watt.

I have a geyserwise sysetem which kicks in between 05:00 - 07:30. My daily grid consumption still average between 8kw and 11kw.

Used to be 25kw -30kw before but the installation.

Any input would be much appreciated, sorry if the question has been answered. I did do a search before I posted🙂

Here is a picture of my current settings. Any input would be much apprectated.

Thank you,

Hi Maffs, If your aim is to save on grid usage you can bring your SOC down to 30% or even lower depending on what your battery manufacturer suggests. I also have a geyserwise and only run my geyser from 10:00 to 14:00 in summer to 65 degrees. In Winter my geyser has a second cycle from 5:30 to 6:30 but only to 50 degrees. This works for me and I seldom use more than 4kw/h per day. You did not mention how many batteries you have.

Thanks JacoG, much appreciated!

I have two Sunsynk 5.32 batteries. Do you also force your SOC back up to 100% using the grid if need be?

I have noted that some guys on the internet have their SOC set to a maximum of 30% which makes sense as the solars will fill the batteries to 100% if sunlight allows. Then again once loadshedding returns we may want to ensure that we go back up to 100% around 18:00 and limit drain throughout the night but it does sound as if your average consumption is not as high as mine namely around 700w per hour. I am still trying to find the cause because it seems to high. I will adjust my geyeserwise as it seems an easy win.

Thanks again,

Set the PV priority to "Load Priority," as opposed to "Battery Priority." Move as many loads to daytime as you can. Use "Zero Export to CT"

Try the suggested timer settings as below.

Time Start Time End Power SOC Grid Gen
00:00 05:00 500 40
05:00 09:00 3000 20
09:00 15:00 5000 100
15:00 17:00 5000 100 X
17:00 19:00 3500 70
19:00 00:00 1000 50

What does you solar production graph look like on a average day?

I have a 5kw SS, 5kw Hubble batt and 5.3kw north facing array.

We use about 2kw of grid power per day because I'm a bit low on batt capacity. It would be nice to have another batt but at 2 units a day it is not economically viable.

I take my batt down to 33% soc and use about 200w in the morning, the rest is used during the evening to keep the batt at 80% till 23h00 after that it drains down to 33%. Base load is about 200>400w.

Hi Vaal, Sorry for my belated reply. Herewith stats on a relatively sunny day. In hindsight I am not sure that I should have bought the second battery. My saving was around 50% with one 5kw battery and with two batteries I save about an extra 3000w per day. Hardly worth the investment in my opinion.
