Lights Dimming

Featured Replies

Observed that my lights dims for a fraction of a second when one of my fridges starts up--Even with the VICTRON 8KW (Loan unit) I saw that--Now I am running 2x5kw Growatt inverters  ---Is it that the capacitors in these are to small ??

If it is the issue can I install an external capacitor between the inverter output and db board ???

Cheers

Mark

Just a sanity check, on what type and capacity of battery(ies) you have installed, and what type of surge power it can handle.

Hi--it is 2x5kwh batteries supplied by LithiumSA --Batteries are in parallel with 10mm wires to inverters

It can also be that the wire between the inverter and loads is too thin causing a volt drop when fridge starts up.

If one assumes that the right cable sizes are used with the batteries plus inverters in question then one should not see a large drop in V.

If looking at 10 kWh batteries being fed with only 10 sq mm cable which for me is quite a bit too small.

Further try and fit another type of LED bulb. Some do have lower quality controllers inside that might flicker for the slightest change in Volts.

Thanks all---Just to add --Each battery is bridged to the inverters--  One 5kw inverter has 10mm from one battery and the second one is the same--The bridge is between the 2 batteries --so 10kw is shared by 2x10mm cables--I could be wrong--But system is running 100%--Only problem is that the Growatt dongles can not be combined to give the combined reading --Some one at Growatt that can assist ????

Had a check on the cable size from the inverters to the db box and the size is the same as the "eskom" incoming lines--So I think that the inverters initial power boost (is that what you call it) is to low
