Kodak OG 5.48 and Shoto SDC10

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I've seen various other topics on the matter but they seem to be rather oldish so I'm looking for up to date info. I have the above inverter along with 2x Shoto SDC 10 Box 5 batteries. Currently I am using Solar Assistant to read the battery values as the inverter seems to be incapable, at least that's what I'm seeing. Does any of the newer firmwares support this battery's BMS?
I am unsure if the screen on the kodak shows other info which is needed, but I have attached a screenshot of the inverter's data on SA. Looking forward to some more information regarding this.

What is your present secondary/display (U2) firmware? It's probably on another Solar Assistant page.

As a point of interest, is there anything you are missing at present when using SA to talk to the battery BMS?

@Coulomb Thank you for the reply.

I will take another screenshot that perhaps has more info.

When I ask SA to read the battery values from the inverter, SOC, capacity etc is all incorrect, only the voltage is the correct statistic. So I assume the CAN communication between the batteries and inverter is not working as intended? The electrician did change the DIP switches on the batteries at the time of the install so that it can communicate with the inverter, but it didn't seem to do anything. I found other DIP switch settings on Solar Assistant's website for the RS486 port, which I now use and it all shows up perfectly there.

For reference is there perhaps DIP switch settings for these two batteries to communicate via CAN, to make sure they did in fact set them correctly the first time?

Following:

I just assisted my parents with installing 2x Kodak OG 7,2 with 4x Shoto batteries and we have having the same issues. The guys from solar solved assisted with all the correct V settings on the inverter, however the SOC show's 67% when in-fact the batteries are fully charged. I am also looking for a BMS solution.
My knowledge of this is very limited, and purely trying to find a solution to ask the installer if they can help installing/setting it up.

This is the first time I have heard of the DIP switches, how/where can I read up on how they should be set?

2ndly, on both our inverters there is no option to select LIC/LIB in setting 5? Any idea of why this is?

The easiest solution for me in regards to getting the BMS working was to buy a Shoto RS485 Cable that works directly with Solar Assistant and plugs into the device itself instead of the inverter. Then the dip switches need to be set on the front the of the batteries, below is the link, it's pretty straight forward:

https://solar-assistant.io/help/battery/seplos-bms

This is how it shows up in Solar Assistant then (only have one battery connected currently)

Perhaps someone else can comment on the LIB/LIC settings, I have not seen that on mine either as far as I remember.

The SHoto battery type is relatively recently implemented in the Voltronic inverters, if it even has already, and the 7.2 kW model is now fairly old.

However, you should be able to update the display firmware (that's the firmware that talks to the battery's BMS) with something recent, such as 12.28.

I'm a bit hazy about whether the main (U1, DSP) firmware might also need updating to accommodate this. If so, consider 69.70 or 45.13, depending on what version of main firmware you are running now (i.e. 69.xx or 45.xx). If you are running 45.xx and want to try 45.13, let me know. I can't quickly find a link.

so now you don't have a communication between the battery and the inverter , right ?

I checked a recent display firmware, version 39.27 dated June 2024. For VM IV Twin, though that probably doesn't matter.

All the protocols were implemented or at least checked for, except SHoto. This despite the fact that it's second in the list of names stored in every display firmware, with only PYLontech in front of it.

So my wild guess is that they intended to implement SHoto early on, found it hard, implemented others that seemed more important, and never finished it.

That is a shame. If I had know I'd rethink my inverter/battery combo.
