June 20, 20241 yr Hello dear fellow forum members, I have for about 1 year an older mpp solar inverter 4048ms, 4kw with low voltage (max. 145v) of the mppt, which, for about 1 month, emits a burning smell (strong heating) from the inside when at the output there is a load greater than 2.5Kwh I think the cause is the filter coil on the AC output, I looked with a thermal camera and it is the hottest part on the inverter board. I don't understand what's happening, the inverter still works perfectly but I'm afraid to let it work like this.... Can you help me with a diagnosis? (I mention that the sinusoid on the output is perfect even at high loads) and that there are no imperfect contacts at the springs and screws. I am at your disposal with images and any data you need, thank you!

The copper wire, its varnish, and the toroid can all withstand that sort of temperature comfortably. Is it possible that dust has gathered on it or the transformer (also gets hot, but not as much)? That can lead to a characteristic smell of "something hot".
June 20, 20241 yr Author I know that this coil heats up in operation and has no dust on it to burn, the smell is intense and every time I exceed 2.5kwh as a consumer. I know, it's complicated to repair something that works, but that burning smell bothers me and more than that, I don't think it's normal for it to appear. I repeat, it worked without problems for me for more than 1 year
June 20, 20241 yr Maybe check whether the burning smell is from something coming into contact with that hot coil. For example, your SOC cable seems to be touching or moving very close to it. If so, try to keep it out of the way, like maybe fixing it with using cable ties.
June 26, 20241 yr Author Hello, I feel I owe an explanation, I managed to repair my MPP SOLAR PIP4048MS inverter, the problem was with one of the fuse terminals in the inverter (I think it's 150A), where the contact was imperfect, I cleaned the fuse well with fine sandpaper as well as the terminal, I tightened everything back and now the inverter works normally, without any smell of burning or overheating!!
