Installers and access (sunsynk)

Heya. Busy having my Sunsynk inverter installed. During quoting, I had a few installers flash open their phone and show usage from other customers as part of their sales pitch. I don't like that, and I don't really want any installer to have access to my system in a real-time manner, no matter how much I like them (and I really like my chosen installer).

I spoke to sunsynk earlier and they said it would be no issue to have it in my control, and they could even arrange that post install. Question is... how crucial is it that an installer has access to the inverter remotely. If I had an issue, I could surely share access with them if required?

Am I missing something critical?

Ask them to set your email address as the 'Owner' of the Plant in the portal/app. And then you can use the Plant screen in the web portal to add them as a 'Visitor' when necessary, which gives them view-only access, under the 'Share' sub-menu on the plant. You can also use this page to temporarily grant them 'Manager' access which will let them make changes if they need to.

Likewise in the event of a pre-existing plant, they can use the 'Transfer' sub-menu to hand over ownership.

Thank you, appreciate that response

No problem,

On the subject, in the interim use the 'Sign Up' link at www.sunsynk.net - the email address that they assign ownership to needs to have an account registered there.

I just signed up an account now. Would I add them under the company section? Role?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it when adding a user

To do their job properly and give you support they need access at least at first. In my experience they don't have time to sit and watch customer systems, but they do take a peek every now and then, and if you call them to say you don't understand what is happening then they can intervene. Also they may need to apply firmware patches.

I'd discuss a scenario that gives them full access for some period of time, then leaves you in charge.

You need to have a way to give read only access. My system is 6 years old now, but recently I logged a call with Freedom Won, and they wanted to monitor my system for a couple of days. I told them that I could give them access such that they could look, but it would be impossible for them to touch. They were happy with that.

Last thought: They need access (at least to view) in case somebody like me when I was shopping for a system starts asking them questions and wants to see one running in real time.

One of the reasons I have dumped the brand. They mandate that the Installer has first access & then retains access & allows a viewership to the client. I'm sorry to say that from the beginning I did not follow that mandate & was initially listed as a master installer with the brand. They then changed over to carry out an audit & wanted the installers to prove they have installed a certain number of installations. I always installed & asked the owner to create an account then share with me. So I actually couldn't prove the plants were installed by me, all I could show was that they were shared to me. In the end I told them to go fly a kite.

My understanding was that the client has paid good money for this equipment & they are the official owners, I'm not trying to create a hostage situation, which is what I have often come across from end users in the past. I was just a facilitator of the equipment & it's correct operation & installation. The rights to allow changes & ownership of the plant should never be negotiable.

I'm not against the brand or the equipment, I just didn't agree with their policy of the app & it's ownership etc.
