December 10, 20241 yr Can anybody tell me what is essential load, non-essential load, backup load and, i guess, home load? there is so much jargon I get completely confused! I have a simple set-up whereby all the plugs/sockets are connected to solar but the pool pump, oven, geysers connected directly to the grid.

There's too many terms here 🙂 using the terminology I know, in your example the pool, oven and geysers are non-essential loads, and the plugs and, I'm guessing, lights are essential. The essential loads are the ones that you decide must stay up through an outage. Yours is a pretty common arrangement. Geyser and oven are usually the biggest loads in the home. The pool pump draws significantly less, but runs a long time, so you probably don't want that drawing from your battery.
December 11, 20241 yr Author Thank you for your reply. Do you have Load or Battery first? I have Load first. Just wanted to check typical configuration.

I think that what you're asking me here applies to settings on your inverter. I can't help with that because you haven't told us what inverter you have, and also because that question doesn't correspond to any settings on what I have, which is a Goodwe ES. If you are running a Deye/Sunsynk, Load First would be preferred as it means it will prioritize sending power to your essential loads and only after that is satisfied will extra power be sent to charge the battery.
December 21, 20241 yr “essential load, non-essential load, backup load and, i guess, home load” These terms are right out of the Deye manual so I’ll take a swing at it. Essential load and backup load are the same thing. Non-essential loads are connected to the grid and essentially bypass the inverter. They lose power when the grid goes down and do not use battery power. Home load encompasses all loads. Everything on your side of the utility meter is a home load.
