How do I plug the Solar Assistant to the LV Hub? Is it the same cable from the Solar Assistant to the Pylontech. I saw Solar Assistant had an option for USB CAN. Would I select this. I don't know when I reach out to SA re this issue, they didn't say connect to your hub.

For the big group, I need to connect the port x of the header to the port y of the last battery in each bank and then forget about the last z batteries comms.

  • You can only have 7 of the US3000A in daisy chained. If you look in the manual for the 3000C it gives the positions for the different types.. For banks you can use the RS485 as shown in the manua

Normally SA uses USB-to-serial cable that goes into serial port on the master and polls the BMS via CLI. On the battery, serial port is labeled as CONSOLE, while on the LV HUB serial port is labeled as RS232.

For a shame, CLI of the LV HUB is a bit different than the CLI of master BMS. You can try it, but I would not expect too much.

 

USB-to-CAN cable is not a good option here: It works with LV HUB, but you will lose a ton of information when compared to CONSOLE/RS232/CLI method, since the CAN protocol contains just an aggregated info like total SOC, total SOH etc. There's no detailed info about the SOC of individual batteries, nor individual cell votages etc. when CAN protocol is used.

I think I tried the Solar Assistant to the RS232 on the LV Hub using the same cable I connected to the Master Battery. I think we are heading in the right direction. 

I am going to try with those new header cables I bought. If that doesn't work connecting each bank in parallel via the headers, you mentioned making a master group. 

Sorry I missed the cable I need to get to connect the port 0 to port 1 between the last battery in bank to the header battery of the following bank. I think you said a UTP cable.

I purchased them. So I am waiting on these cables (plus spares) from Communica to connect the master batteries in parallel via the CAN to RS485 I think it is. I will then check if I can pick up the additional batteries. If it doesn't work, then I have also ordered those UTP cables (plus 2 spares) and will check if I can connect the header of each battery bank to the last child in the prior battery bank via port 0 and port 1 to see if I can see more information on these batteries. Once I have this (let's pray one of these methods works), I can then monitor my batteries and work out if any are misbehaving or not. All batteries are on their latest firmwares and this was done via the local distributor. I will ensure the USB to serial cable which is currently in master battery on battery bank 1 is kept there and not moved!

Again, I appreciate all the feedback I have received from Youda and Tinbum. I have learnt from you in a couple of days than the local distributor in a couple of years!

Used these Master Battery cables and disconnected and reconnected the Solar Assistant from the USB -> Serial cable and still only showing 4 batteries....

Plugged the battery side into the CAN port and the other side into the RS485 port.

I assume that:

  • First two banks are made entirely of 4x US3000A
  • 3rd bank is made of 3x US3000C
  • You are not able to shuffle batteries around, physically

If that's the case then this is the way how to daisy-chain them:

For now, there's now way how to daisy chain 8th US3000A.  Just skip it.

Double-check the USB-to-console cable type that you have. There are two types:
  1) USB to RJ-11  (works with US3000A)
  2) USB to RJ-45 (works with US3000C)

You need USB to RJ-45 cable for the above scenario.

The USB wiring I have goes from the USB port (I think it is type A) of SA to the Console port of Bank 1 header (US3000C). I know you said leave this in here. I have those UTP cables as well. So I can rather drop these "parallel" cables between each US3000C and then connect the UTP cables between the last battery in each bank to the header battery of the following bank?

  • Turn all the batteries OFF
  • Remove ALL data cables, except the one leading to SA.
  • Connect batteries together with the UTP cables wired like this:
  • Turn all the batteries ON one by one. Start with the master (the one having connection to SA), then follow the UTP cable and turn each battery on.

I didn't turn off my batteries when using these parallel "master" cables. I will try that and then attempt your design you have here. Thanks Youda! If I can monitor 10/11 batteries, I will be over the moon!

Oh yes. You must power OFF/ON all the pylontech batteries whenever you change DIP switch settings or whenever you change cables between the batteries. The BMS reads this and initializes itself accordingly only after reboot. Rewiring on the fly is not possible.

You never stop learning ;) LOL. I feel like a chop lol! Let me power off the batteries and then try those parallel cables. If they still are argument, I will take them out and do the UTP option. I am going to do UTP initially only with bank 1 and 2 and then attempt bank 3. I don't mind turning them on / off.

Normally Pylontech supports up to 16 batteries per bank ( parallel).

 

However older batteries,  specifically us2000 (a,b / plus) and us3000 (a) must be in position <=8.

Total of 11 batteries with 1 one master us3000c therefor only supports 1+7+remainder C models. 

I have 4x US2000 plus and 4x US3000C models and was also under the impression max is 8.. But this thread gave a some hope to expand

Chatting to Pylontech at the moment. Found battery 2 and 3 are playing up. They say there looks like there is cell damage. Waiting on what is going to happen given those batteries are a couple years old. They said they have been overcharged. I don't know how this happens, but the 9 other batteries are 100% from what one can see. The first and last two are lower because those are US3000Cs and they seem to draw more amps than the US3000A when being used during the evening.

Yeah, that's normal. I assume that those three US3000C's are newer than the rest of batteries and therefore their internal resistance is lower. That's the reason why they are suppling more current during discharge.....and receiving more current during charge.
