Good morning All

I have a 8kw Sunsynk inverter currently with 3 Pylontech US2000 batteries (after 2 very swollen US2000's were removed last week). These 3 remaining batteries are insufficient to carry my house load for 24hrs which is the minimum battery capacity I want, and I need to buy additional batteries (and sell the Pylontech's (about 4 years old) for whatever they are worth). At the same time want to use this as an opportunity to upgrade given that the Pylontech 48v batteries are obsolete (the US and UP ranges).

I want to get good quality batteries with extensive track record locally and overseas (not just a brand engineered battery) and don't mind spending a bit extra - I am however not crazy enough to spend huge amounts on BYD batteries etc. Quality is more impoortant to me than R/kw cost. The batteries I am currently considering are:

• Eenovance (either 2x10kw or 1x15kw)

• Deye - same sizes as Eenovance above (seeing that DEYE is apparently the same as the Sunsynk but with better service)

• Possibly Pylontech UF5000 or Pylontech Fidus (the DoD is interesting, but I'm not really convinced about buying Pylontech again)

Am I leaving out other brands to consider, and which of the above options would people recommend ??

I also want a plug-and-play solution with no need to update firmware etc.

Apart from the above, can anyone recommend a proper installer in Pretoria who can install the new batteries for me??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I cannot really make recommendations, but can give you some feedback on the Eenovance batteries. When I set up my system nearly 2 years ago I bought what was sold then as Sunsynk Sun-Batt 10kWh batteries. It later turned out that this was actually re-branded Eenovance batteries, and although I was really pi$$ed off about this blatant fraud by a "reputable" manufacturer, the batteries have been performing pretty well... I did experience some errors and one of the units tripping at random for some time, but after an upgrade of the BMS firmware and the inverter's firmware (twice), this problem was solved, so I cannot really point a finger at the batteries.

The battery firmware update had to be done manually with the installer hooking up his laptop with each battery in turn and the actual updating process done remotely by Herholdts Electrical (the Wholesalers / agents for Eenovance). I really must praise Herholdts for not only being profession and quick to respond, but also for being accessible - the guy that did the remote updates actually phoned me twice, and spoke to me in Afrikaans... Local is Lekker 😁

One other battery brand that I have heard mainly good things about is Freedom Won - but they are quite expensive - R68 000 for their Home 15/12 unit... (and I'm not sure of their South African support footprint), but I'm sure that the Powerforum Store will be able to advise...
