Replacement LCD

Featured Replies

Mmmmh, I am wrong in this case. It looks like a Hitachi HD44780, but that chip on the back is an 82C59 microcontroller. So that board is more than just an LCD. But maybe you can solder parts of a hobbyist board onto this one. You only need to replace the LCD after all.

I agree with Plonkster here, just get the LCD board from one of the loaca shops, and replace the LCD and board.

That 16 pin connector is standard on those LCD's

Man... O should learn to look properly. This is two boards stacked on top of each other. The bottom one has an Atmel MCU (as already noted), but the top one is very likely still the stock-standard LCD I mentioned. You should be able to desolder the 16 pins (some desoldering wick or a desoldering pump is helpful), then simply slot the new one in.

The one I linked above has an RGB backlight, ie it's similar but not exactly the same. You may have to shop around a bit to get one that is pin for pin compatible.

FWIW, the LCD used in the new EasySolar-II inverter is the same, as is the one in the Microcare MPPTs 🙂

Playing "Flip-Flop" today.

This is the standard one available at R90, and again in Green, Blue (like the inverter one) or white, (I prefer)

I found a local shop that sells these LCD screens. However they want to know from me if it is a 5V or 3.3V LCD. Is there a way to tell without separating the boards?
