Riaanh got a reaction from Piper in 330/335W solar panelsOK Update:
Thanks to Wanderer, he had 4 panels available, and I was able to get all 4 from him. Nice and friendly transaction from a fellow forumite.
So at this stage, I am still looking for an additional 2 units😶
I do see for the others as well that are interested, it seems "The Sun Pays" seem to advertise their own branded 340W poly units at the R2,5k range.
Happy Solar everybody.

Riaanh reacted to brian1709 in Any Advice on TheSunPays Mono panelsWell will report on the efficiency and capability of the 480W panels as soon as they are up and running but based on the service from The Sun Pays up to this point it should be great.
Bought and paid for yesterday at 13h00, delivered at 9h05 this morning. Free of charge (100km radius)

Riaanh reacted to IcePick1957 in GCSOLAR@Riaanh Yep, I'm also in hurry with things...... My electronic components like voltage regulators, resistors, diodes and transistors etc I order from my supplier for years now delivers it within 2 working days. So I'm used to quick delivery times and anything longer makes me "restless" .
But I'm giving them a try this Saturday, spending about R 12K...
Thanks for the input guys! 👍

Riaanh reacted to Coulomb in Axpert Inverter 5kw5000 W compared to 4000 W rated is 25% over; that's the very outside maximum I would ever put on an Axpert. The issue is the poor battery voltage regulation; with more panels, the inverter-charger is more likely to overshoot the battery voltage, and for longer. Also undershoots, but those won't damage the battery, just waste a little usable PV energy.
12.5% over is no problem; 20% is usually OK; 25% is pushing things.

Riaanh reacted to Tokolosh in Lithium BatteriesThanks Riaan
My thought process on the same track here.
Many end users now challenging us as supply and installers as to why our pricing is not on par with the "new" kids on the block.
Even the used or second life batteries .. if you cant determine the actual SOH, how would you know.
There is the old school way .. by doing a physically load test cycle but that takes time.. and most clients not going to "pay" for a pre install service
Nor would the supplier allow you to test prior to sale .. Next big scam is on our hands here.
I just thought maybe someone has a solution. But now you say the counter can be reset. Oh no.

Riaanh got a reaction from swazz99jhb in Crimping 50mm^2 battery cable.I do have a hydraulic crimper, and are willing to assist.
Yet I am in Centurion so if the drive is worth it for you I can assist.

Riaanh got a reaction from SYC in ICC/Diversified Solutions alternative contacts?I will respond to the last mail received from you now, I have checked spam etc, and cannot find anything more than that. I drive around with your cable in my vehicle, and admittedly, it has quite a couple of km's on it at the moment 🙃

Wired like this.

Of course I am a tad bemused by the budget inverter paired with a sizeable investment in batteries, but to each their own 🙂

Riaanh reacted to Coulomb in How else can I check Axpert isn't a clone? One way is if you can't open the cover without cutting a sticker with a year and month code on it (the smaller of two stickers). That sticker should cover one of the screws holding the cover on.
From your description, it does seem legitimate. I suppose you could post a photo of the larger sticker for someone like me to check. Black out the last several digits of the serial number if you want.

Riaanh reacted to ___ in Circumventing the COCT 3.5kVA limit... Your post makes me think of this humourous car-repair video I watctched recently where this guy is up in the woods repairing his old beater, and he needs to remove the AC evaporator. Now of course the AC system hasn't worked properly in years... but there is still some gas in the system, and it being Freon and all... he announces on the video that he just needs to go to the shop and fetch the AC machine. The video comes back, clearly still the same day with the sun in the same place, and he says he's taken the machine back already cause he's short of space... and continues.
Now everyone who watched that video KNOWS he just vented that thing into the atmosphere... but there is no evidence 🙂

Riaanh reacted to ___ in When your inverter goes booomOld age is a big one. Most electronics have this problem. They have electrolytic capacitors, which age the fastest, especially where higher temperatures are involved. I have had many an appliance blow up because the capacitors are too close to the hot parts, and this includes computer motherboards and internet routers. This was also one of the big issues with the earlier Axpert MKS units. They had capacitors on the DC bus rated for 63V, 2000 hours. When they ran hot, they blew up every 6 months, which is roughly 2000 hours at 12 hours a day 🙂
Of course this issue is one of design. The designer decides how long he wants it to last, and selects the component accordingly. Over time, the engineers, bean counters, and support dept. reach some sort of an agreement and that is what you get.
Saw a report of a Victron unit that failed its relay test repeatedly. Turns out a bug managed to sacrifice itself across the Life/Earth contacts.
Accidentally wiring 23VAC to the output... yes that can happen. Accidentally wiring 24V to a 12V inverter, I've seen that too. Reverse polarity will destroy some units too (adding a diode causes too much of a power loss, and adding a reverse diode/FET plus fuse adds cost). Some inverters are pretty robust though, and it takes real ingenuity to get it wrong.
But let me say this: A good inverter should never ever blow up because it was overloaded. A good inverter switches off when it is overloaded. You fit breakers to protect the cabling against overcurrent, but never to protect the inverter. It is pointless in any case: A breaker can take tens of seconds to trip. The inverter must be able to deal with an overload and protect itself. This is non-negotiable.
