June Lai
Hi, I have an Axpert 5 KVA inverter and I just want to know at what temperature does the cooling fan starts to run. Is it controlled by temperature sensor or by the amount of current being sense. I just want to make sure the unit is working properly. Because before there was a problem on the unit, once you switch on the inverter the cooling fan will work for a few seconds then stop immediately and the error code 02 will appear on the display meaning over temperature. Sent it the workshop after a few days sent back to me telling me the unit is repaired and working fine. So just to make sure I tested the unit connected a load 65 watts electric fan and run for 1 hour. Unit was working and no alarm but i notice the cooling fan is not running. I estimated the unit temperature at about 40 Celsius. Not so hot. Is that normal? Can anybody tell me if that is just normal. Thanks, Jose Lai Jr.
Coulomb
4 hours ago, June Lai said: if that is just normal It's normal to make almost no noise, but they should be at least spinning quietly all the time the inverter is switched on. You might need the cable cover off and a torch / flashlight to be sure. The fans blow downwards (as supplied from the factory), which is dumb because it is counter-acted by the natural tendency of hot air to rise. The fan control algorithm is quite complex, taking into account load, charging current, and temperature, as well as a few other factors. In the latest firmwares, it seems to be mostly driven by load power and solar charging current. They run at a minimum of 30% speed, which is barely ticking over and audible only at night or in a very quiet environment. I think that fan noise must be proportional to at least the square of the speed. For the fan to come on due to temperature, it would have to be quite a high temperature. 4 hours ago, June Lai said: I tested the unit connected a load 65 watts electric fan and run for 1 hour... the cooling fan is not running. That's a very small load (around 100 VA, or 0.1 kVA) for a 5 kVA inverter. It would not come near to triggering the fans to spin faster. Because of the 30% minimum speed, and maximum speed is demanded at 5 kVA, you won't see any change in fan speed/noise until more than 30% x 5 kVA, or 1.5 kVA. I find my 4 kW/5 kVA model starts running the fans noticeably at some 2 kW load, or about 1200 W of solar charge power. Gerrie
6 hours ago, June Lai said: Can anybody tell me if that is just normal. My 5KVA Axpert is normally quite when there is very little load on it. My unit use to be inside the house, and night time when I switched of most lights before going to bed with a load of about 100W, I would hear it go silent. I eventually moved it out of the house because of the fan noise when someone switch on the kettle or so it would speed up and when kettle boiled it turn silent again. Roberto
I have a Growatt off grid solar inverter 2 - 5 kVA. The fan never switches off regardless of the load, it runs 24/7, is this normal or is there something wrong with the installation?
