September 13, 20223 yr Author Eventually got down to adding a heatpump for the 250L geyser, eskom usage is now down to 2.5kw - 3kw per day. From my previous 50-60kw this is a big win for me. Heat Pump is a Kwikot HP007, uses about 1900 watts and can heat water up to 75 degrees I have mine set to 68 degrees. It takes the same time to heat as the element in the geyser which was 4400 watts however the element was set to lower temp of 60 degrees. Water is hot in 2 hours sometimes less. It seems like hot water was more than 50% of your consumption. Based on the cost of heat pumps this is a massive saving and not much work involved. Enjoy it.......

Before I would turn on the 250L 4.4kw element during PV hours and only turn on the 150l 2.4kw element after the big geyser was hot. Now I can do both at the same time and they draw 4400 watts together. The Kwikot heat pump for the 250l geyser around 1950 watts and the element in the 150l geyser around 2450 watts only heat this once day. The heat pump also allows me to have a more battery by 6am (35 percent SOC, sometimes more sometimes less depends what the family is running in house). Overall the heatpump is gonna save me during the rainy days when no Solar power is coming through and I need Eskom to heat, 4.4kw vs 2kw. Edited September 13, 20223 yr by Treschen

The main unit is the living/kitchen room and a bedroom with a bathroom. The second area is the garage with a guest unit on top with a bathroom. There will be two geysers. A 100lt for the guest unit and 150 lt for the main room. What i have at this stage is a Deye 5kw inverter vir a Hubble 5kw battery. That is enough for my lifestyle and my Budget (-)). I only have space for 8 sun panels, on top of the quest unit. So what will be the best solution if I want my two geysers to go on solar as well. For example, if i use 5 550kw panels for the house and 3 550kw panels for the geysers. Can i use my smart load function for the geysers, or do i need to get geyserwise or elon 100 pv kit or do i need a pv kit with the smart load function. As you can see, I am totally confused. Please advise. Thanks

Please advise. Thanks I have a SunSynk 5kW with one Hubble 5.5kWh battery and 8 panels. I run my geyser as a smart load on the inverter. On good sunny days, I have excess capacity left after charging the battery and heating up the geyser. On cloudy days - not much left. So, on a good sunny days, you should be able to run both geysers and the battery completely from the solar panels without using the grid. On cloudy days, you will have to compensate with Eskom.
November 17, 20232 yr This is 100% possible with just standard geysers. The only caveat is regarding the use of SmartLoad/Aux: this port contributes to inverter maximum. So if your geyser element, combined with your standard household load, exceeds the inverter/battery maximum (5kW), you'll trip the inverter. So for example if your house pulls 3kW (someone boils the kettle?) and you have a 3kW geyser powered on via SmartLoad/Aux, you'll trip. Hence in your case, calculate your expected household loads and when you do, it might make sense to stick to 2kW geyser elements if you'd like them on SmartLoad; and you'd then set geyser timers to have them switch on sequentially to keep under the inverter limit and maximize solar utilization. In my case I run a 5kW Sunsynk with a 4kW Geyser (far too big for SmartLoad/Aux) and a 3kW (also a bit too big). Swapping out the latter element to 2kW would make putting it on SmartLoad feasible. However in my scenario they're both currently on non-essentials (nothing is connected to SmartLoad yet) and because the inverter is able to push back excess solar capacity to non-essentials, most of their heating takes place from solar when it's sunny anyway, with Eskom contributing only when solar is insufficient or the household load peaks above 5kW. The only real down-side of not having them on SmartLoad/Aux being that they can't run when the grid is down (eg, during load shedding). So both options - non-essentials and SmartLoad/Aux - are available to you; but just pay attention to your load-vs-geyser-element-size if you go for the latter option as both battery and inverter need to be able to handle the combined load.
