Axpert MKS 3kva usb com port issues

Hi There

I am new to this forum and would like to know if anybody is having the same issues that I am having with my axpert mks 3kva 24v unit.

I only have a usb comm port but as soon as I plug it into my laptop to use the watchpower software I get usb unrecognized error this is on windows 10 is there a way to get past this point as it is really frustrating as I would like to use monitoring software with my inverter. Do I perhaps need a firmware update? and if so where would I get the firmware

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Welcome to the forum Andries

Not entirely related but I think it is a Win10  issue I sometimes have hassles with win10 recognising com ports in the Arduino IDE. Looks at win10 literature help desks etc.

Welcome Andries,

Had same problem on Windows 10 with serial to USB. Changed the serial to USB devices and Win 10 was happy again to recognize them.

At least they are not expensive.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies keep in mind that my inverter only has a usb port it does not have a serial port.

Thanks

All Axpert inverters should have a serial port. It is the rj plug labled "RS232" next to the usb port.

I spent half a day trying to get ftdi drivers going on windows 8.1 and gave up in the end. Not sure what's in the axpert, but I was amazed how the device in question works out of the box with osx and any Linux since 2008... yet here I was...

You must have been trying to install Linux drivers on Windows. :P:D

Yes it works with everything else just issues with the axpert maybe time to create a linux vm and test.

Don't know how I am going to get this working tried win 7 vm but it does not work.

This is a strange one as it use to work.

I am not an expert, but if the USB ports work with everything else, I would start looking at the Watch Power software / Axpert Firmware.

More advice's from the others to follow.

Where would I find the correct Watchpower software and the correct firmware just not sure how I would update the firmware if usb is not working.

How you maybe tried another PC / Laptop, to connect to the Axpert?

I tried my wife's laptop on win 7 same issue but it does not give an error I am now thinking it might be the watch power software.

What version should I use?

Sorry Andries, I cannot advice. Give it a Google, or search the forum here.

Try the free version of SolarMon... will help you sort out the issue.  Ports are easy to setup, etc

Are you running the 5kv..?  Otherwise I like mppsolarpatrol...

I am not having any luck with this tanks for all the help. Dont I need a specific driver for the usb device the axpert inverter is using this is really frustrating

Windows just keep giving me the unknown usb device error.

Are you using a usb hub or anything like that... otherwise if its just usb direct to laptop then make sure the laptop sees the device, The inverter, as Com1 (that worked for me).

Mark, That wont work for him as Windows does not even see the inverter yet.

Does your inverter look like this one.
