Growatt SPF5000ES BMS communication error

I have just installed 3 pylontech us3000c and a Growatt spf 5000 es. 

With the settings I see here and elsewhere (using lithium battery setting and either protocol 02 or protocol 52) I get fault 20, and 4, consistently when using the li setting in setting 5.

My dipswitches read 1000 (upside down because they are installed that way)

I have tried using the can port and the rs485 port. No change. 

I even called Growatt (us) customer service and, get this, they told me that the proper setting for my batteries is us2 and then to manually set charge values in settings 19,20,21! 

I would like to use the proper lithium protocol and communicate with the bms.

I can make a new cable if that is what is needed.

Can someone help get this going?

OK. It looks like I got it working:

I had to make a custom cable using the pin outs provided by Pylontech and posted in the thread above. 

I am using the bms port on the inverter and the rs485 port on the battery.

I am using protocol L02 on the Growatt.

Can't help you with the Pylontech pinouts, but if you have that, match the CAN L and H pinouts on the Battery side to these Growatt Pinouts

I've also had problems with connecting my two X 5000 ES growatt to my 5 Kw LBSA battery, eventually I gave up and running on user 2 

I tried all kinds of pin configurations to no avail.

I know my battery BMS is a SEPLOS, contacted Growatt and SEPLOS in china and both told me that one does not support the other.

About time that an international standard protocol is introduced to sort out these kind of problems.

Don't hold your breath on those hopes. We are pretty much seeing the same hardware compatibility issues that we experienced early on when Home Computers became mainstream. Frustrations from all corners of the globe.
Fortunately that was mostly resolved, albeit took a decade or two.
Now the Mainboard OEMs have proper online support on their websites and the end user can view all tested compatible hardware and BIOS releases with release notes and decide if they wish to do the flash.
Maybe one day the solar industry will wake up to the fact that the end user is what's keeping their business going. The lack of online support wrt Technical information, Firmware releases and Notes is beyond belief in an era where it has never been easier to communicate information.
Why this seeming reluctance to post the files with the Notes and a clear indication that flashes may cause problems and are at the users risk.

This is using 0010 on dip switches, via CAN cable, protocol 52.

Eventually got this working today. Added another battery hoping the newer battery would resolve the issues we experienced on getting BMS to work (it didn't).
 

Using the same configuration of 0010 on dip switches with the CAN cable and protocol 52 seemed to work, but the inverter loses comms after about 15 - 20 minutes.

 

Got it working via the RS485 cable (meant for the older growatt inverters) that came with the battery on the RS485 port via protocol 1. Dip switches set to 0110.

 

Hope this helps somebody.

I have exactly the same problem as AIWil if he can please contact me on WhatsApp or Telegram my number is +27636753431 I'm in South Africa. Growatt also told me to set to US2 and manually set 19 , 20 and 21. I feel I don't get full use of my Lithium Batteries. I have no communication cables.... please help

Like said by francois, you could also try to make a cable using the configurations in the manual. I know we tried and that didn't work. But that can just be something we did wrong.

Im having the exact same issue on my setup (SPF5000ES and 2x Dyness B3s). First battery is set to 0110 and second battery (slave) set to 0000. Using the Dyness cable that came with the battery. Random trips during the day with fault 04 and fault 20. 

How did you get a new cable?

Sorry for only replying now. I contacted the person that delivered the inverter and battery at my house. Explained the issue and he then delivered the new cable and also wifi module for me.

Hello everyone,

My experience with connecting together, maybe someone help.

Growatt SPF5000ES + Pylontech US2000B+ (4pc) + Solax Sk-SU3000

Solax ---Pylontech   (Standard rj45 cable flat connnected to CANHUB, next special cable from manufacturer)

Growatt -- Pylontech (Special cable rj45 as down)

Cable connect to CAN port on first battery, no set switch just default.

At CAN BUS switch:

At growatt must set    05       LI     (bat type)

                                     36       52    (Protokol)

Good day.

I do have a SPF5000 with data logger.  It seems that my inverter and Datalogger do not communicate.  On shine WIFI and on PC with Growatt server  I see my plant and my data logger.  The datalogger light stay blue continuously.  I have replaced the internal battery but no change.   Any assistance please.

I was told that the standard communication cable in the pylontech battery pack is the problem and that they are trying to source the correct cables form China. That might take forever. 

I am a novice at this solar thing. Has anyone had the same problem or know were I can purchase the correct cable.

Hi,

Please advise the pin configuration of the cable that works on the growatt spf 5000 es inverter.

Is it on the inverter side pin 1 to battery pin 8 and and inverter side pin 2 to battery pin 7. Also confirm if the inverter side cable is connected to the BMS or RS485 port and the protocol settings as well.
