Growatt SPF5000ES BMS communication error

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi. I have Grawatt SPF5000ES inverter and a pylontech us3000 battery..

I followed the instruction manuals to the letter but I get a error code 20. BMS communication error..

I also found useful info on this forum, followed the instructions (some of the models differs and do not all have the same communication ports, I think) but I still get the same error.

I was told that the standard communication cable in the pylontech battery pack is the problem and that they are trying to source the correct cables form China. That might take forever.

I am a novice at this solar thing. Has anyone had the same problem or know were I can purchase the correct cable.

Thanks

I had the same problem with my growatt inverter + dyness battery. I ended up having to wait 2 weeks for a replacement cable. After plugging in the cable everything was working 100%.

Like said by francois, you could also try to make a cable using the configurations in the manual. I know we tried and that didn't work. But that can just be something we did wrong.

Got this feedback form China and followed the steps. Seems to be working

If Pylon battery want to build communication with inverter(SPF3000/5000TL HVM/WPV/ES):
Inverter side setting:program 05-36-L02/L04(SPF3000/5000TL HVM),
program 05-36-L52(SPF5000TL HVM-WPV/SPF5000ES),
Inverter port:BMS port(SPF3000/5000TL HVM),
CAN port(SPF5000TL HVM-WPV/SPF5000ES),
Battery side DIP switch:1000----ON OFF OFF OFF
Battery port:RS485 port(SPF3000/5000TL HVM),
CAN port(SPF5000TL

@RenierdT do you run your system on solar power? How are you finding the combo of 5000 es and US3000? Did you manage to get it all working smoothly?

I've seen many people having trouble with the 5000tl hvm and us3000 so wondering if your combo is the one to go for.

Many thanks

Hi guys, did anyone eventually get this right? I have US3000C and SPF5000ES

Couple things i noticed.

Pylontech sent me a document with the pin layout and firmware versions required for the different battery and inverter models, but it did not list SPF5000es. as per the manual the configuration is rs485 Cross Pin. However the SPF5000es manual states it is a PIN to PIN. The Cable that comes with the Pylontech, is a standard UTP Cat5 Cable, see documents attached.

My system is very similar:

  • Growatt SPF 5000 ES
  • Single Pylontech US3000C Lithium battery

We also kept on getting Error 20's and also error 4.
We could not get it to connect via RJ45.

What did work for us was plugging into CAN port on the battery and inverter.

Then on the inverter you set the input to CAN and most importantly use Protocol 52

Everything worked from there on.

LD

PS: Battery dipswitches are 1000 (On,off, off, off)

Inverter set to Profile L02 which then displays "Li" on screen.

Hi guys,

I have 5kva ES with 2 Pylontech 3.55kWh. 12 x 420 panels 2 strings of 6 panels to make a parallel connection into the inverter. I keep getting warning 43, battery over temperature. Coms is vai Can, the master is set to dip settings 1000 link port 1 and goes into the slave link port 0. One battery goes into 43, then I reboot it works, then there other goes into 43, the first one works fine. They alternate like that... Now I can't clear warning 43 anymore.

Just for sharing:
Growatt SPF5000SE and Pylontech US2000 B Plus, manufactured September 2021
Setting in GROWATT:

1. 005 => LI
2. 036 => 52

Battery DIP switches: the first needs to be "on", all others depends how many battery groups you have.

I'm using the RJ45 cable that comes with the pylontech cable kit; it has blue labels: one end is marked "battery", the other "inverter".
On the inverter, the cable is plugged into the BMS port.
On the battery, the cable is plugged into the CAN port.

Battery Specs from the "info" command executed on the battery console:

Manufacturer        : Pylon
Device name         : US2KBPL
Board version       : PHANTOMSAV10R03
Main Soft version   : B67.10.0.1
Soft  version       : V3.0
Boot  version       : V2.2
Comm version        : V2.0
Release Date        : 21-06-07

Hope this helps,

Hi i have high voltage error on my spf5000 hvm wpv p use lithium settings 01 for dyness rs485 cable and battery dip on 0110 any suggestions

Hi

If the communication between your battery and the inverter is normal, the high voltage alarm is normal. You can also send your battery to Rectron, and update the firmware to solve the problem.(Updating firmware is free)

Thanks

Ok thank u Dyness are there any other protocol i can use for rs 485:0110 the 52 protocol on can 0100 gives random trips

Have also hade the random trips from day one when running in Li  mode. This now with latest firmware on the inverter, still get the same. NOTE: This is with SPF5000TL-HVM inverter and Dyness B4850s. So it seems to be a general issue and not something with my install then?

Hi Dyness, is there any way to check current firmware version on the batteries (B4850) to be able to see if a FW update is needed? Other than carting them all to Rectron?

Hi ,You can give me your battery SN.If you've never done a firmware upgrade, I'll let you know if you need an upgrade based on the information you provided.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm trying to help someone get their dyness battery talking to the Growatt 5000 ES via BMS. After configuring it, all looks fine, but then randomly trips and recovers until switching it back to US2 settings.

This is using 0010 on dip switches, via CAN cable, protocol 52.

Hi, could successive help me with settings on my battery and inverter.

Inverter is growatt 5000es and battery is greenrich 3686.

The battery reading she's not correspond with the inverter battery reading. How can I solve this issue?
