Easun SMK 5KW Communication Board Problem

I have this Axpert 5KW from Easun SMK 5KW.  Over the weekend rain splashed on the remote Panel and the Comm Board (Part #: 16-501026-00G) went up in smoke.

Was able to quickly short the inverter down.

After investigating, two diodes (BX320) were burnt.

My question is it safe to power the inverter without the Comms board just to test if something else has gone bad.  Ordering for the Diodes will take more than a month.

Has anybody experienced the Comms Board blowing up?  Did you replace the remote Panel too?

My guess is that yes it will be safe, but you'll be running blind (the removable display will not work). But you'll likely not be able to turn the inverter-proper (the DC-AC converter), because the on/off switch is on the removable display. If so, you won't be testing much of the electronics.

You might be able to get away with replacing the comms board with a straight-through RJ45 to RJ45 socket to socket coupler, something like this:

Hopefully, that will connect the on/off switch (which I believe doesn't require power) through to the main board, where it can start up the main power supply if needed, and also signal to the DSP that it can turn on the inverter-proper and connect it to AC-out.

And hopefully, you can get access to one of those couplers faster than the diodes.

If you don't need the Bluetooth or any removable display capability, you could conceivably run it like that forever.

Hi, grateful for your kind support.

I'm feeling happy now.  Powered on the Battery and the inverter seem to come online but no output.  Was able to hear one relay click.

And the fans blowing.

On your suggestion to use the RJ45 coupler.  My Comms PCB is only connected to the inverter system via two PCB connectors CN1 and CN2

Do you by any chance have a circuit drawing of the said board?  Maybe I can pull out the two cables for switching on the inverter from bypass.

While wait for the Diodes to come from China (45 day avg)

No. But recently I wondered about how the power switch connected. I forget already how I determined this, but I decided that it was two pins on the RJ-45 connector. Looking at your photo, it looks like it might be two towards one end. Note the routing in the PCB to isolate those pins from all the others, and the two tracks that run together between two of the RJ-45 connectors (presumably skipping the Bluetooth connector, since it doesn't have a switch). So I'd say with reasonable certainty that those are the two wires to the switch. It should be easy to check with a multimeter in any case; connect the removable display to the unit when unpowered and check for continuity if and only if the switch is pressed in.

Ooh. Thinking about this, it could be that these are the CAN bus wires. So definitely test first with the multimeter.

[ Edit: it looks like these pins are 7 and 8. ]

Confirmed it goes to the two pin PCB connector.  And works with the Power on switch.

Now we are back online, tough blind.

Will either buy a new Comm board or repair the faulty one or both.

I'm sorry Easun does not make spare part easy to get.

I had to repair mine.  Thanks to advice from Coulomb.

How badly burnt is your board? Do you have a little experience solering electronic componets?

And can you post the photo of the board?

I know that clone communications boards can be found online; others have found them. I've not had the need, so I don't know where to get them from, possibly Ali Express (as with everything these days).

As @richtech mentioned, repair is also a reasonable choice, if you have the skills.

Hi all!

I restored the communication board 16-501026-01G after the Bx320 diodes burned out, replaced the diodes with MBRS4201, rewound the transformer with a new wire, primary winding 12 turns, secondary 15 + 15 turns, to disassemble the core, the transformer was immersed in acetone (nail polish remover) for several hours.

before rewinding, the diodes smoked and the output voltage was 7 + 7 volts, after rewinding it returned to normal to 12 + 12 volt

 

the primary winding of the coil was evenly distributed over the entire width of the frame, the secondary winding coil to coil in one layer each half of the winding, the interlayer insulation was made with baking parchment paper

Well done 👍 i have also seen some folks boiling the transformer in water to help the teardown.  

Is the coil turns  specified somewhere or did you reversed engineered it during teardown? 

counted when unwinding the original turns, I- 12 turns, II 15+15 turns

 

the inverter was damaged by fire during shelling in Kharkov in Ukraine, the control module case was melted but continues to work, the repair consisted of rewinding the transformer and replacing the diodes

Well done on the repair, and I'm guessing that the repaired inverter will come in handy with an electricity supply that may be unreliable.

Yes! the inverter is used with a battery pack CALB CA-100 16S LiFePo4 with ANT-BMS 8-20S 300A in UPS mode, prolling blackout 4 hours every 4 hours in the Poltava region now

I need a little help, for a com board (Easun inverter 5k) , where some of the elements have completely burned and I don't know their values. I followed a photo above and circled the elements that should be replaced

Can you tell me what I could replace them with as values?

Hello!

In the photo above, two Schottky diodes and two 0 ohm resistors (jumpers) are circled in red, the diodes can be put on any 3 amp 200 volt Schottky  (example MBRS4201)

firstly, I hope I am at the correct place to ask for help!

Regarding the infamous 16-501026-XXX board: I have some version of an Axpert KingII 5kW inverter. After repairs, guess I made a mistake with the dual wire cables connecting to CN2 and CN5. One of these should connect to CN1 on the motherboard and the other one to CN7 also on the motherboard.

First question: on connecting DC only, I measure battery voltage (about 55V) present on CN1 A| |START (motherobard). Is this to be expected?

Second question: which dual wire cable should connect where? Some diagrams (attached) indicate CN7 (motherboard) connects to CN2 (comm board) with no mention of anything connected to CN5 (comm board). In the same document, the attached photo shows the two dual wire cables connectiong to CN2 and CN5 respectively.

PLEASE HELP?

I don't know the King II models specifically, but they all use much the same main power supply circuit, and that does have basically battery positive at one end of the load/start switch. So yes, that's expected.

Alas, this means that plugging that into the wrong place could cause damage.
