I have a single panel that I need to move, but it requires disconnection of one of the wires. What is the correct procedure to follow to disconnect, move and then re connect this panel?

I assume DC switch off, and PV breakers dropped?

with installation on my panels the company only ground my panels with the power utility ground in the box and not through a spike outside in the ground. is that correct or not

I need some help sizing a correct string for a SunSynk 5KW inverter. The inverter specs are as following:

PV String Input Data
Max. DC Input Power 6500W
PV Input Voltage 370V (100V~500V)
MPPT Range 125~425V
Full Load DC Voltage Range 240~425V
Start-up Voltage 150V
PV Input Current 11A+11A
No. of MPPT Trackers 2
No. of Strings Per MPPT Tracker 1+1
 

I would like to size a string for one MPPT Tracker and possibly half of the input power for now. Later I'll add more panels for another sting on the second MPPT.

The panels I have in mind have the following specs:

First question would be - Do I look at the specs at STC or NOCT?

Another question - What does it mean when they say "Full Load DC Voltage Range 240~425V"? Is the MPPT going to stop working above 425V?

And thirdly - What do they mean by "No. of Strings Per MPPT Tracker 1+1"? Can I put 2 strings per MPPT and use a combiner box or only 1 string per MPPT, as there is only 2 PV inputs on the inverter?

If I want to be as close as possible to half the inverter DC power 6500W/2 = 3250W

Let's say the panels are old already lost 10% of the max power, so they should be 225W now. 

3250W/225W = 14.4 panels. Let's say 14 panels in one string per this calculation.

Or, as per NOCT - 185W - 10% = 166.5W

3250W/166.5 = 19.5 panels. Let's say 19 panels in one string per this calculation.

The inverter say - Full Load DC Voltage Range 240~425V

425V/37.4V = 11.4 panels. Let's say 11 panels in one string per this calculation.

Or if I look at the NOCT Voc 35V:

425V/35V = 12.1 panels. Let's say 12 panels in one string per this calculation.

 

Which of the above calculation and string size would be best given the above specification?

Hi all

First post here and hoping someone can help. I've got a Deye 5kw with a single AM2 Hubble and 6 x 465w panels. Installed for 75 days now without issues. 

With Stage 6 yesterday, we were running on Battery and Solar from 12h00-16h30. I noticed after restoration that my battery was not charging - 18h30. We were at 89% and grid was not charging up to 100% like normal. Spoke to my installer and guided me on a system reboot. Checked fuses, no issues either. By 19h30 everything worked fine and batteries charged up to 100% ahead of round 2 of loadshedding from 20h00-00h30 

Paid little attention today as load was fed by solar for the day and my battery discharged and charged when load shedding kicked in from 12h00 to 16h30 again. This evening, checked on the battery and it's been at 90% and not charging. Did a reboot of just the inverter but that did not resolve. Only had a few mins before loadshedding was due to kick in so said 90% should carry us fine.

My installer is suggesting a software update. Does anyone know what the latest update available is and how to go about getting and installing it? 

My biggest concern is grid is not charging the battery. I have not made any changes to the settings since it was installed all those days ago. I do not use the Grid charge during specific hours. So ... I'm at a loss. According to the Solarman app, we charged on solar but seems the issue is with grid feeding the battery.

I've mailed Hubble and Deye for answers. Hoping someone here might be able to assist and guide me.

What is the SANS rules on this? 

Can panels be connected to house earth or must they have a dedicated earth spike. 

My home earth is connected to utility earth and a ground spike. Can I just use this existing ground spike? 

Hi, Does anyone know which is the latest Firmware for the Growatt 5000es?

I wish to install a Lithium battery on my Axpert 3kVA - 24V inverter system. Firstly, can this inverter be configured to charge lithium properly/safely ? Secondly, any recommendations for this Lithium battery - size, make, supplier in SA etc ?  

The system has been operating very successfully with two 12volt flooded lead acid batteries (100Ah) in series for about 10 years, with battery replacement every 3 years or so. However, with the current load shedding schedules, I'm deep cycling up to three times a day ! The batteries are not going to last long at this rate.  May as well look for something more robust !

hi guys want help on my setup with Deye Hybrid 8kv with  2 x A481000 Dyness battery.

 

issue: - no data is being logged on the inverter . See picture .  What should be my battery settings on inverter I have the following as my setting .

 

is the lithium mode correct ?

 

inchecked the cables and both are fine as well for the connection to battery 

 

should I not see more data logged and also data on the BMS 

 

 

Recently I have noticed that when power is restored after loadshedding that my inverter would go in safe mode and gives a error 08--Bus voltage to high--I have monitored the utility power when it comes back and voltages of up to 350VAC was measured for about 15 seconds then drops rapidly to 90VAC---Surge protectors are installed but it only helps with a spike but not a constant high/low voltage--Any suggestions please 

My Freedom Won battery is rated at 200AH.

My mother's inverter trolley has 2 × 105AH battery. 210AH.

Actually I have a lot more power than she does, as my battery pack is 50V, whilst hers is 12V.

Why is the AH measurement used for batteries? It really doesn't tell you how much power they store. 

Surely it is more useful to say that my battery is 10KWH and she has two 1.26 kwh batteries.

I want to have a small led light come on when loadshedding is on. Mostly because my wife trips the inverter by overloading. 

I have a sunsynk 5kw and hubble AM2. 

I didn't install the inverter myself, but a diy solution would be great. 

I keep a rain gauge which I check every morning. It's not 100% accurate, but checking the volume of various sizes of cones shows that it's not far off. I compare my figures to those given by the SAWS (which are averaged for regions) and I'm in the ballpark. So my figures are reasonably accurate.

OK... so for December 2022 I logged 259 mm (this is in Randburg). For 2021 - same gauge in the same location - I recorded 181.5 mm. So December 2022 (as anybody living in greater Jhb could tell you) was significantly wetter than December 2021.

PV? Glad you asked. I had 305.2 kwh generated in December 2022, 329.2 in December 2021.

Figures for 2020 were 113 mm and 374.8 kwh.

OK... me just humble computer programmer. I can barely spell "climatology", but I think these figures fit in with something I recently read from SAWS to say that SA is entering a 3rd straight year of La Nina conditions, which means more and heavier rainfall. That seems like it should mean more overcast spells.

So how was your December? After all, maybe my panels are filthy (though with all that rain I doubt it)

My brother I law wants to go off grid on his farm in the Northern Cape. Apart from normal household usage, he has 2 pieces of equipment with a 7.5kW induction motor each. 

Will he be able to run one of these at a time on a 12 kW inverter? Or will the startup current trip the inverter? 

 

Or will he need 2 x 12 kW inverters? 

In many cases it is a bad idea to use a ring terminal that is not exactly the same size as the stud.  A lot of sites tell people to never do this.

For example, on some of the Victron fuse blocks, the metal bar is only the same width as an M8 ring.  An M10 ring will extend over the sides of the bar and the surface area in common is reduced.

On the other hand, on some devices like the 3P 15k Voltronic inverters, they put an M8 screw into a very fat metal block.  The metal block is 30mm wide and 40mm long.  The block is bigger than an M8 ring, in fact it is bigger than an M10 or even an M16 ring.  If I put an M10 ring terminal onto that block then all the underside of the ring terminal will be in contact with the block.

Voltronic recommends 7-12 Nm torque.  To apply that torque equally across all of a ring terminal, it might be useful to include an extra-wide washer with M8 hole in it above the ring terminal.

How do people feel about mixing and matching sizes in cases like this where the ring terminal appears to be completely in contact with the block underneath?

Good day all, may I please have your assistance, I am currently running a Dyness A48100 and Luxpower SNA 5000 as a loadshedding solution, no PV. When switched on, the battery shows all SOC lights on for 2secs (picture) then switches off. Happens with the inverter connected or disconnected. Anyone experienced something similar? Does it point to a failure of the battery?

Morning, starting on this confusing journey!

I am close to installing a 5kw Sunsynk with a 5kw Sunsynk battery, with about 3.7kw PV. I have asked the question below to various installers and get various answers.

I want to split up my home items between:

Essential:
All lights and plugs inside the house

Non-Essential:
Swimming pool pump
Oven
Geyser


So my question, which applies to when there is NO load-shedding....

Some installers lead me to believe that when your home items (essential and non-essential items) are switched on and use more than 5kw in total, then the inverter will trip?
Others say no, that wouldn't happen, as the excess usage will be sourced from Eskom. So if you where to use for example a total of 7kw on your essential and non-essential items, 3kwh would theoretically be sourced from your solar panels, 3kw would theoretically be sourced from your battery but together it will be limited to 5kw due to inverter limitation being 5kw, and the remainder of 1kw will be sourced from Eskom?

So which one is correct?
