Also look into Dyness, super cost effective . If im not mistaken CNBM does repairs to them if need be, they've got a bunch of warehouses across SA.

I had a Freedom Won Lite Home 10/8 installed in May 2021. Towards the end of 2025 I noticed that it discharges normally until about 48%, and then the SoC suddenly drops to 10%. And then it will charge normally until about 55%, stay there for a while, and suddenly jump to 100%. So I basically had half of the original capacity.
In January 2026 I contacted the original installer, who logged a call with Freedom Won. The installer came to my house with his laptop and the Freedom Won guy connected remotely to diagnose. He said there were 3 cells at a lower voltage. He updated the firmware and said I should monitor it for a week or so.
There was no improvement, so at the beginning of February the installer took the battery to Freedom Won's offices (no small feat because the battery weighs almost 100kg and is mounted on a wall). Freedom Won had it for 4 weeks, and they replaced all the cells and the BMS. So now I basically have a new battery in the old box.
The only cost to me was the installer's fees. So I think Freedom Won's support is pretty good (albeit a bit slow). They responded each time the installer asked for an update.

JuliusK reacted to Sc00bs in 3 Great Solar Automations in Home Assistant
    Hi Guys,
Uploaded my latest video, a beginners guide to solar automations in Home Assistant.
The video covers three automations that I set up:
    - Only Switch Pool on when the forecast predicts lots of power
    - Switch off heavy loads when grid disconnects
    - Change light bulb colour to red when grid disconnects and to white when reconnected
Please let me know what you guys think and if you have any other suggestions for automations.
The sounds should have improved a bit 🙂 and hopefully the flow is a bit better

    Your suggestion is not unreasonable.
But in our day and age where everyone including my mom has done a software update on their phone, we could manage these ourselves if the system was designed / programmed with that in mind.
My ideal scenario in a perfect world would be that you register your inverter with Sunsynk upon installation. Then Sunsynk emails you with an update stating that there is new firmware available for your version of inverter, or even a pop up comes up in your app?
Then you could walk over to the inverter and select the Update Software in the menu option on the inverter display. The inverter then checks in with home base, downloads the latest firmware and asks if you would like to proceed with the update now or later?
Reminding you that when you do the update it (the inverter) will disconnect all loads for the duration of the upgrade. Do you wish to proceed?
All of the above could also be handled within your app, following the exact same process.
I don't think that this is an unreasonable expectation in our day and age and level of technology that we are exposed to on a daily basis.
Why should firmware updates still be done manually in the factory in China?
  6. Haha
Me too! No more FW updates. I'm going back to flashing my laptop BIOS for kicks.

I can finally give an update to the status of my inverter after it go to Sunsynk last week Friday. Sunsynk got the inverter on their workbench on Monday morning and performed all their tests and check and found that both boards were damaged(top and bottom as they call it), the faulty boards were replaced and the unit tested. The unit was then booked for an over night courier this morning and it now on the way back to me.
Overall I am extremely grateful and happy at the speed at which this repair was completed. My expectation were not very high by the other stories that I have read on this forum.
I do have to say that getting hold of any of the repair team is extremely difficult. I would have to call several times a day to attempt to speak to someone, at times holding on for 30 mins.
Overall I couldn't have asked for a better result in relation to the speed of the repair.

Could you provide any documentation that is publicly available on the Sunsynk website that will back up you statement "No load and no PV"?

I've not done a Sunsynk installer course, I'm an end user. I have familiarized myself with most publicly available documentation from Sunsynk. Watched all of Keith's video's on setting it up. I've done alot of research on how the inverter works, making sure that I don't make any changes where I don't completely know exactly what will happen.
I have previously done a software update, using the exact same channels with no one mentioning that no loads should be running.
If this was such a critical requirement this should be publicized better and software updates should be then restricted to installers. I would totally support that, but Sunsynk sell's it's self as such a user friendly company.
Considering the note you shared above was from an Application Note from Segen which I'm assuming is for resellers / installers, I don't think it's unethical for me to share my experience.
  17. Sad
This thread casts a long shadow of uneasiness in the mind of someone thinking of purchasing a Sunsynk inverter. I for one certainly will begin to explore Victron products, despite the obvious higher price knock that will come with that decision. Peace of mind and a robust, quick and efficient "After sales support system", is invaluable. Imagine going a week or more without power after having done such a massive investment into backup power, given the current load shedding🤯
  18. Thanks
Well articulated. In an ideal world Sunsynk would have a dedicated team, by now... which is able to soak up such great and good ideas for implementing onto their systems. Being in Telecoms myself and closely linked with the mobile industry, this is not difficult nor costly to implement at all.

Can't compare a knee replacement with a firmware update.
    https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/personal-incredulity
If load or PV were an issue, the inverter would, and probably does, programmatically disable/shut load and disable/shut PV before starting a firmware update and re-enable on reboot.
The ability to programmatically disable/shut load exists in the inverter as seen on this settings screen:

PV is controlled by the MPPT and can also be disabled during firmware update process.

Firmware updates fall into two categories:
Online - The device will upload the new firmware to RAM/staging area, stop all services, flash the firmware, reboot Offline - Place the device in a limited offline mode and update firmware (eg boot to u-boot and use bootp/tftp) There are some variations on the methods.

In the highlighted text, I assume you referring to the OP's issue where SunSynk broke the inverter by installing 5k firmware on a 8k inverter.
I fail to see how this can be anything but 100% SunSynk's fault.
I would expect SunSynk to go the extra mile (as it's 100% their fault) to resolve the issue promptly without inconvenience or cost to the customer.
In terms of your other comments wrt to isolating the inverter for a firmware update (no load and no PV)

Most of the forum members would agree that If an inverter malfunctions during firmware upgraded when it's not in bypass - that's 100% SynSynk/Deye fault

    Because:
    a) the official SynSynk link for upgrades does not state that the inverter needs to be in bypass.
    https://www.sunsynk.org/up-grade

    b) the official SynSynk user / installer manual does not state that the inverter needs to be in bypass.
    https://www.sunsynk.org/documents/
    Sunsynk_Hybrid_Inverter_8kW_UserManual_v24_English.pdf
    c) the official SynSynk training manuals does not state that the inverter needs to be in bypass.
    https://www.sunsynk.org/post/training-manuals
    Part 1 Training Manual Sunsynk - HQ.pdf
    Part 2 Training Manual Sunsynk - HQ.pdf
    e) the official SynSynk training videos (and there are many and I've watched most of them) does not state that the inverter needs to be in bypass.
    https://www.youtube.com/@sunsynk5885

    f) The official SynSynk technician actually doing the firmware update should check if the inverter is in bypass.
(They should definitely check that the firmware is correct for the model inverter)

    g) It is not practical to put the inverter in bypass and just wait... and wait... and wait... 12h, 24h, 48h and hope that the update gets done remotely when SunSynk decides they have time.

    h) The Sengen Application Note you link to states "Sunsynk will perform an update, this will reset the inverter. Ensure you are not supplying loads with the
    inverter."
The way I interpret the statement is "the inverter will reset during the firmware update process and if you are supplying loads these will go off so bypass to prevent your loads being impacted"
I work in IT and have done plenty of firmware updates in my career - computers, routers, printers, cameras, storage arrays, disk drives, network switches, CPU microcode, HBAs, NICs, RAID Controllers, motherboards, fabric switches, firewalls, phones, DRACs, iLOMS, etc.
The first thing you check is that the firmware is for that model hardware or else you end up "bricking" the device.
Most newer update systems and firmware will auto-check compatibility first and not allow invalid updates.
SunSynk was released in "newer" age but still uses "older" design of not auto-checking.
    Q. When is SunSynk going to provide firmware change logs to installers & public?
