Pre paid meter
Well because my panels aren’t connected yet I always have a constant feed supplying my non essentials, some plugs and geysers. So I took my trickle down to zero because I thought I wouldn’t need it right now and my meter wasn’t working so I was trying different things. I’ll try set it for like 80-100 watts just to monitor some stuff. when you have your earth bonding, should that only be activated when you have load shedding? What about if you supplying your load with 100% power from the batteries? Surely that should also activate your earth bonding even if you have grid feed?

My utility provider can’t even supply me with constant electricity. 😀 jokes… I’ll look into this, thanks

Thanks for the reply, I have changed up all my wiring so that that my meter is before everything else and before the ct coil but it still doesn’t work… well the odd thing is it works sometimes and then stops working. It’s works and stops working a couple of times a day. I’ve even gone through all my wiring to make sure I haven’t mixed up a neutral or something. Also considering that the earth and neutral wires show continuity from the main road supply, wouldn’t this maybe cause an issue with the neutral wires being supplied from the inverter, because that possibly causes a connection between the grid neutral to earth to inverter earth to inverter neutral. A bit confusing but I hope you understand what I mean. out of curiosity, I wanted to check continuity (beep test with multimeter) between the grid incoming and the load out outgoing on the inverter. When I have zero export and zero trickle from the grid surely I shouldn’t get continuity between grid and load on the inverter. But I do get a feint beep, even if I disconnect my load wires from the inverter then the grid incoming still gives slight continuity to the load side connection point ? Could this not be a possible fault and reason why my meter goes nuts or works when it feels like it because it’s getting back feed?

I think you are talking about earth/ neutral bonding.

Sorry for that, not my intention, I see how my drawing looks like that. I ment to show the ct coil on the live only. so if I was to put a plug point before the ct coil then obviously I would have to have a and earth leakage and all that for that plug point. is this normal practice for people using ct coils to put the pre paid meter before the ct coil? I mean my meter outside in the street is before the ct coil and works fine. It’s just the one that plugs into the wall where I load my electricity into.

I’m not sure I follow, I don’t want to have no readings running through the ct coil, I’m trying to solve the issue of my pre paid meter tripping, it doesn’t trip if I connect it before the ct coil, it trips or shows error -30- if I have my inverter on suppling my essentials with battery power even though it’s connected to the non essential side.

That’s why I don’t understand the 1.5amps being drawn from that graph… it doesn’t line up with any other reading

It is ticked on load only, and zero export i don’t think it could feed back to the grid ( or could it) because I already have a constant grid feed to my non essentials? Fridge geyser and so on?

So I just watched a video and if I tick the box priority load then the ct coil will show up on the graph including the house symbol. But then I will be feeding my non essentials with the battery power? maybe I need to keep the grid trickle box unticked and with a value of 0 because In actual fact I don’t need grid to help my batteries supply my essentials. I would only need this when I have pv installed and want to supply my geyser and so on with power produced by panels.

So I just check a pervious photo I took. If Im running on ups only so the inverter only uses the batteries when I have load shedding then that LD value is what my load is. But if I’m running on batteries and have a grid trickle ticked at 40 watts then the LD value is on 40 or 38watts. I’m assuming if I don’t tick grid trickle and leave that value at 0 then maybe the LD value will sit at 0. Ld is what I’m allowing from the grid into my load ( essentials while using the batteries I assume. What I don’t understand is why I have 1.5amps displayed on my screen just above the ct coil

I have zero export ticked and limit load to load only ticked.

@Scorp007 The ct coil is installed as per my diagram, but the arrow on the ct is facing the inverter direction. The sunsynk 8kw manual says that the ct coil must be connect on no.5&6 terminal with the voltage on no.5 which I’m assuming is the white wire, if connected with the white on 5 the the ct coil shows minus figures so I swopped the wires so the white is on 6 , as I read in the manual. The 38watt is the grid trickle because I set it for 40 watts and when I change the grid trickle that value changes accordingly. The 730 watt I assume is what my essentials are pulling, crypto miner is 700 watts and when my geyser switches on then that 730watts changes to around 4300watts as my geyser is 3600watts. But the 40 or 38watt will stay constant

Can someone explain to me why I have 1.5amps of power on the grid side graph. It reduces slightly in amps when I switch of my essentials circuit breaker which is very odd because the problem is the essentials are running on the batteries so why would that make any difference to what is going through the inverter? That amperage is almost constant all the time?

so I changed the wiring to my second diagram just because I’m trying everything at this stage, now the meter doesn’t trip when it’s switch on but does trip when the essentials are running through the inverter, this is weird because the meter is connected on the non essentials side. sometimes it doesn’t trip when the essentials is running through the batteries and sometimes it does. It tripped last night at about 10pm. Was still tripped by 1am… this morning at 7.30am it was fine and working. I have no clue what’s going on. I have requested an update for the inverter via sunsynk website.

Would wiring the 63amp isolator and the 63amp earth leakage like this drawing compared to my other drawing make a difference? I feel like the problem is somewhere here.

I switch my change over switch so my essentials can run from the grid, turned the inverter off on the side button, then switched off my double pole breaker that feeds the inverter. now my meter came back on. switched the double pole breaker to inverter on, so the inverter has power but does not work because it’s on off status, meter stays on… switched the inverter to on status and now it doesn’t work again.. this is even when I still have my mains connected via the change over to my essentials load my inverter is new, not connected to any internet dongle yet and also the firmware is still old.. would this make a difference I don’t need to switch my main supply for my inverter off, as soon as switch the status of the inverter to off via the green button the side of the inverter then my meter comes back on.

I haven’t tried but I will. I tried removing the ct coil wires but didn’t work, I will try the inverter. Yes, I have quite a few protection devices going into the inverter and then going out the inverter to my essentials are also a few, earth leakage and surge, earth/ neutral bond relay sorry the drawing is basic just so you can see how I’ve wired everything up.

As in under my earth leakage as per my drawing or like under my stove or geyser circuit breaker? but would not that restrict flow to my geyser or stove when I have pv connected because then the ct coil will restrict power to those circuits? Edit: Wait, are you talking about the ct coil or the plug in meter? The plug in meter is connected on one of the non essentials circuits on circuit breaker for my non essential plug points.. the plug point is not on my load side for the inverter because i have my crypto miner on it. The grid feeds my crypto miner

No, it’s a complex with 4 units, the gate motor is connected on community property. So it’s as if I went to my neighbors and connected it on one of their sockets

Pre paid meter
Sorry if this is in the wrong place since I have installed my inverter on Sunday I am unable to read my pre paid meter. it shows error -30- I have tried all the plugs in my house, inverter side and grid side but nothing seems to work. If I go to my gate motor in the front of my property and plug it into a socket then the meter reads just fine, if I run to my house before the meter battery goes flat it will sit on a reading without changing and then eventually go into error -30- I have tried unplugging the ct coil from the inverter to see if that helps, but it doesn’t. because I don’t have solar I am testing the work mode out so I can cycle my batteries. I have ticked to not export to grid, I have an 80watt trickle set. I don’t know if it’s something to do with my wiring because at this point it’s my only explanation. please excuse my quick drawing. But it’s just to show you how things are connected
