  1. Power the pylontech off or the Sunsynk? Please provide a photo of the readings. Much appreciated.
  2. I presume you refer to the included Pylontech cable. How quickly does it start to recover info?
  3. Gents, another request please. Has anyone succeeded in connecting the inverter to Pylontech batteries to retrieve info. I’ve tried the Pylontech supplied cable to the RJ485 (?) but no info is retrieved. Any assistance will be highly appreciated.
  4. Thanks for this. Sunsynk up and running in standby mode. Need to get the panels up now.
  5. I am busy installing installing my sunsynk 8kw. Can somebody please supply photos or guidelines on where the earth wires must go to. I assumed that the connector boxes is the normal LNE connections but the earthing sign is missing. I saw on another posted photo just the red and black power wires. This will delay my installation so advice will be appreciated.
  6. Gents, I’ve bought 14 panels and need to install them. On inspecting my old farmhouse with a corrugated roof I found that the brandering spacing too be totally unsuitable for the rail spacing. I have 4 lines, one at the top and one at the bottom with 2 in between lines at 1,5m apart. The brandering is 50mm depth x 70mm wide. My intention is to do a portrait installation. Do we have to put the solar cable inside conduit pipes inside the ceiling? Anybody ever had to fix a situation like this? Any comments and suggestions will be welcome.
  7. Isolate often when we have Highveld thunderstorms.
  8. I have a 2.2kw Franklin pump at 65m. It starts at 35 amps and runs at 13 amps. It trips my 4kw inverter if it is not connected to the municipal supply. So you need to look at a 8kW inverter with the max no of panels for it. Alternatively look at softstart systems to reduce the startup amps. ACDC advertises one for less than R3k
  9. I have leds installed to indicate which circuits are live. As well all the switches have labels to indicate their functions.
  10. So you are using one output only. After reading and spending a lot of time on the bypass switch for two inverter outlets I’ve come to the conclusion is that its best to use the essential outlet only. I am not convinced of the advantages of using the gen input as an aux outlet. In my case the electrical supply can go off for 4 days at a time and then I won’t have power to my high amp side. Currently I can do the bypass switching and use the generator as an alternative power supply. And my better half is used to operating like this 😀 And no changes means no unnessary expenses.
  11. The problem is that it is not mistake-proof. If the switching is not done in the right way you will damage the inverter. Thats why I mentioned the mechanical interlock - it must be a break then make mechanism. Lately I just trip the mains isolator as the inverter will kick in in ms. My db is also split into a low and high amps side. Thats why I mentioned initially that it will become complex - and I don’t see a way out of it. As it is my wife complains that it becomes too difficult to remember all the steps when switching back and forth - as is my habit when the highveld lightning becomes too intense to my liking.
  12. Looking at your switches I assume that one needs to isolate the inverter with the Waco switches before switching the db over to feed from fb mains. If you do not follow the steps to isolate you might get a live feed into your inverter. Do you have a generator as well connected someplace?
  13. @Achmat are you sure this safe as there is no mechanical interlocking involved?
  14. Your layout looks really neat. What are the Waco switches used for. I can read the printing but are they for switching between the mains and the inverter?
  15. Thanks, am waiting for the stuff to be delivered. Is now looking for advice on the bypass switches for a Sunsynk dual ac output.
  16. Gents, My current inverter has a single ac output and I have two bypass switches (one for the mains + gennie and the other for the inverter + mains) to manage the flow of power in the db. With the Sunsynk 8 kw I’ll be using two ac outputs and I’m stumped with what the bypass switches must be like. Any examples of how you have done it will be welcome. I have a non-technical better half and I really don’t want to increase the complexity of the current system. As it is I had to motivate the huge expenses to replace a perfectly working system 😀
  17. Gents, any advice on a combiner box for the Sunsynk. I intend to put two strings of 9 and 5 panels on it. One facing North and the other one East. I’ve bought a Sunsynk 8kW and 14 x 455W JA Solar mono panels 😀 Just waiting for delivery now on the panels and fetching the inverter tomorrow. I need to do last minute purchases now as the country is closing down. So anything I need to do must happen tomorrow.
  18. Gents, Just one question to put this issue to bed. Has anyone had a COC certificate done with a Sonoff? My neighbour’s house burnt down last year Oct. Forensics reported it was caused by a spark to his tv caused by a load-shedding event i.e. too high voltage. They were visiting family that evening. You just cannot be too careful.
  19. In rands per gram a sonofff is definitely more expensive than a geyserwise 🤑 A geyserwise with all its functions built in is all I need to run my system in an energy efficient manner. Lots have been published on this topic. I am extending my solar system and I’m evaluating options on everything. I see my new geyser heats a big bath’s water (80l) for R6.50 vs the current Paloma gas geyser at R10.31. But then it cannot beat the Paloma system advantages which is setting temperatures easily (important when my kids and the granddaughters visit) and off course an unlimited supply of hot water - irrespective of the municipal power being available. So some things go beyond technical advantages.
  20. Was this problem solved?
  21. Gents, It really is nice to see all the positive comments on the Sunsynk inverter. Please expand on how you use the power generated in your homes. What special arrangements do you have to prevent overloading? What type of geysers do you have? What do you do for power during times of no solar i.e. night time. I have a 4000W inverter but am now installing pv of 4500w. So it is going to move from a backup to generating power full time. But to make do with 4kW power will really take some effort. All comments will really be appreciated.
  22. I was very surprised to see an ad for this model this week. The price was R26k which is very high for what you get. My Infini has been performing faultless for close to 3 years now.
  23. Well, I’ve been waiting for a quote from Steven since Monday. Suppose the five days special is history now. Not impressed.
  24. Interested in 10 x 455w panels
  25. When I arrived home in Secunda 33 years back I found my tv scattered across the living room. Fortunately my baby daughter and myself had to fetch my wife from hospital at the time it happened. She was always fiddling with the tv’s coloured lights. This town is infamous for lightning damage.
