  1. @AndewJ please tell us what the final outcome was.
  2. They had insurance payouts for their boiler which blew years ago ... Still not replaced .... one can but hope
  3. I've heard a rumour that the president and his two bil are going for solar... Meddling from the AnC side will trip any venture...
  4. Please oh please tell me the Mantashe speech is fake news.... Us miners will never hear the end of that from Aus.....
  5. Not going to happen - unless they want to lose their voters. The average eishkom salary a while back was R645k per year. Btw, their pension fund is the biggest in the country with not too many contributors. Sooo, they will never ever give this up voluntarily. lol
  6. The one fact that he stated is the current board has been in place for 18 months. They have put nothing new in place and not one criminal has been prosecuted. The term “state capture” is a soft term as it is fraud in legal terms. Browsed the Adrian Gore report and it is “blah blah blah” My 1c .....
  7. Electricity generation for dummies - by Dummies Listened to Ted Blum on ENca today. We are in deep sh*t
  8. So if I take their construction time as a baseline we can multiply the costs x8 and the time x4. They definitely don't get my vote of confidence......
  9. Be wary of hydrogen emitting batteries. More explosive than methane.
  10. Buy the 6ka spec mcb. My db is Hager only for mcbs and haven’t had any failures. Bought them from Livecopper but their price increase on Hager is too much. Shop around for the best prices. But a correctly installed and designed db won’t have any failures as nothing will trip on overload.
  11. Hopefully flameproof.....
  12. Had an aeroplane towing lidar in my town today. Wonder why...
  13. Can't buy from them. Total ripoff!! I have two 12v fridge freezers of 50l and 90l. That's the way to go. We buy everything on the outside.
  14. Hi Peter, What size is the mesh filter? I’ve followed your advice with the Clinobrite but now finds my 1 micron paper filters clog up rapidly with a red iron sediment. The Clinobrite is working better than the Maddox in my opinion. The current iron content (done for free at Builders) is 0.2 (sample taken from my bathroom). When I had the raw water analyzed initially it was 0.3 from the borehole. I do back washing on my blue filter but the water coming out is very clear so the iron must be leaving the Clinobrite filter. Is there a product which I can add to the top of the Clinobrite to catch the very small iron particles? I don't want to back to the 5 micron paper filters as I’ve lost my Paloma gas geyser heating element due to it clogging up. Expensive and a nuisance. There is also no sediments in my bath once I’ve drained the water out. The iron used to color the white baths and basins in my house. Now it’s no more a problem 👍🏻
  15. The only considerations for me. BUT 😉 being retired, I can pack up my caravan / boswa and go stay elsewhere for that time. The Kruger National Park sounds like a very good place to be then...... And the 8.8 kWh pylontechs can keep the house going. but on a more a serious note, when there are week / month long extended outages the whole country will be in the sh#t. And having home solar will not save the day. And generators can only be used whilst you have fuel for them.
  16. This is rather like getting the AA tariffs for using your personal paid for car for work purposes. You will never make enough from traveling to motivates all the costs. Which should include the future replacement btw. And we all know monthly payments go up on new cars... And any solar component that fails outside the warranty period will upset any financial calculation.
  17. We had a power outage from 03h00 till 11h00. In that time my battery volts dropped from 52v to 50.6v. A low amps dB circuit is connected to the inverter. I switched off all the vampire loads at about 08h00. When the power came back the batteries took 85 mins to recharge @49a up to 53v. Interesting was that the voltage dropped to 52v immediately after the charging stopped. This must be a bms thing as it decreased very rapidly in a countdown mode. It took 4.5kWh units to recharge the batteries which equates to R1.25c per hour of inverter time. I have a 4kW super infini with 4 x 2000 pylontechs which I use as a backup. No solar panels. Some financial considerations : If I want to go solar I need to go for a R30k panel installation. This is the equivalent of 1000 days of power outage or the usage of 8.33 years solar power where I will save 1/3 of my electricity bill. Very difficult to motivate financially at the current exorbitant R2. 23c per kwh.
  18. Be realistic about this. By next year the exchange rate might have hit new highs with crippling dollar prices. I would rather take an extended home loan and do what's necessary. BTW, financial motivations for solar do not work for me. Its about the security and convenience for my family. Also get something to measure the power consumption of the stuff you want to put on solar.
  19. Download scan the sun from scanthesun.com App is user friendly.
  20. Looking for a control like this https://m.banggood.com/DF96D-AC220V-5A-Din-Rail-Mount-Float-Switch-Auto-Water-Level-Controller-with-3-Probes-p-1194872.html?gmcCountry=ZA&currency=ZAR&cur_warehouse=CN&createTmp=1&ID=241289&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc_union&utm_content=2zou&utm_campaign=ssc-za-all-0626&gclid=CjwKCAjwpuXpBRAAEiwAyRRPgeqLxHj16Rgpm3SIrTQCP16c_B54VgcTlLXCBcKK2qNt5DgQHalDDBoCs5EQAvD_BwE#popupStatedetail
  21. I need a simple system to switch a borehole pump on and off when the water levels are high and low in the tank. Preferably a 12v system (if possible) switching a 230v relay. Ive got a float switch but it stops starts the pump as it only looks at about a 1/2 m of water level difference. I need one that switches on / off with about 1,5m difference as I have two 5000 l tanks installed with a 2,2 kw borehole pump. Any suggestions will be welcome.
  22. So back to the electricity topic. One women (from Zim) told me they had no electricity for 3 weeks now. I can only think how that must change your lifestyle. But they are only paying 11c US $ per unit. hmmm
  23. So in the USA their consumption is only 250 million pounds per year..... I can only guess where it will all ends up.... Like the tests on the fish caught in the cape..... I stopped eating fish now!
  24. It’s the same as the infinisolar hybrid super 4K. Do a search on the forum as a lot has been written. I thought its off the market so you’ll be getting an obsolete model from a no-care supplier. It’s not on the manufacturers website anymore. @Jaco de Jongh has a used one for sale now.
