  3. Good evening Fellow Forumites Good news - we managed to get the generator to charge the batteries without tripping the unit. Thanks for the help and advice and to the team @Solis Inverters SA who was very helpful and making my friend happy again (it was his 50th birthday too). Turns out a software update and a few minor adjustments on the input side was all that was needed. COC was issued and his system is working better than expected.

  5. Not sure. He is not technically inclined and the installer will return on Monday only, but I think that the unit itself switches off. I've asked them to connect it to the GRID input and then check. He wants to carry all loads, but if the solar yield is not great (like today), then the generator must assist in getting the batteries charged.
  6. My friend had his S6 Pro installed today, with 12 x 620W panels and 15kW Kynee battery. Because he lives out in the sticks and have no grid connectivity at all, he uses a generator to keep the lights on. Upon testing, every time they started the generator, the unit will trip. Is there anything that the installer must be aware of or additional equipment that is needed to make it work? The installer will be back on Monday, so I'm trying to help before they complete the installation.

  12. I have the Sunsynk 10kW unit with 4 Dyness BX51100 batteries and I used the comms cable that came with inverter. Was plug & play, been working flawlessly for the past 2 years.

  14. I stay in PE. And is located on the Baakens river in the western suburbs. Fog and mist doesn't appear that often on this side of town, but when it does it dissipates before 10am, and will appear again around 4pm. I have a mixture of 9 mono (545W ea) and 9 bi-facial (550W ea) panels spread across 3 MMPT's ( 3 banks of 6 ea: MPPT1 = 6 x 550W bi-facials, MPPT2 = 3 x 550W bi-facials + 3 x 545W mono, MPPT3 = 6 x 545 W mono). All of them face north and angled at about 35 degrees from the horizontal. Roof is flat and painted white to get the maximum reflection for the bi-facials. I've noticed that production is good all day from all 3 banks, but on very hot days bank 3 performs better. However, on overcast and rainy days, the bi-facials perform slightly better. Production on the bi-facials starts about 30 minutes earlier and ends about 30 minutes later in the day). Banks 2 and 3 does cast shadows over the banks behind it in winter, but the bi-facials are halfcells so they still perform in those situations, and I will be moving the panels on bank 1 (6 x bi-facials) slightly higher soon to get more sun on them when winter comes. I was considering moving the one bank to face east and another to face west, but the prevailing winds in PE blow from the west and I don't want to risk them being damaged or blown off by the odd gale force winds in the area. I also have the option of adjusting each banks angle, but over the past 18 months, I've hardly used any Eskom power as all 4 batteries are fully charged when the sun sets in winter. In summer, the batteries are full around 9:30, before geysers, pool pumps, etc starts. The whole house is wired to the essential output and batteries charge rate is set to 0.1C. Hope this helps in your decision making.
  15. Good morning. I have a 10kW Sunsynk with 4 x Dyness BX51100 batteries since May 2024 (2 since January this year) and so far they have delivered. Integration was quick and simple. BMS is supported. And the price is very good.

  18. Hi Vic. My setup is almost similar to yours. I have a 10kW SS with 4 x Dyness DX51000 (1C) batteries (had only 2 until early January), 6 x JA Solar 550W Bifacials on MPPT1, 6 x Trina 545W mono on MPPT3 (MPPT 2 will be connected soon, once roof has been completed). Flat roof painted white, all panels facing directly north. Everything is on essentials (1 x 3kW Solar geyser, 1 x 2kw normal geyser, gas stove, pool pump, electric fence, LED lights, 3 x AC units etc). Solar geyser is set to heat from 12 (if not on temp), smaller geyser and pool pump on CBI Astute with timers for time of day and remote access). Both geysers are on during day while the sun is out, pool pump runs in the afternoon from 1 to 5. Batteries are set to charge from PV only, once below 40%SOC, use grid. No export to grid. I have been monitoring usage, PV production, etc closely since install was done in June 2024 and these are my findings: Before the Sunsynk, there was a Synaps 5kW with 6 x360W Canadian solar panels on the roof and 12 x lead acid batteries in the garage (we bought the house with this on site). Eskom usage was around 20 units per day. Late in May 2024 I took the plunge and replaced it with the SS, 2 x Dyness batteries and bigger panels. With the SS and 2 batteries I used to start using grid from around 3AM until the panels start producing again. On a nice and sunny day, the batteries would be at 100% SOC around 11am (we try to run the big stuff when the PV's are producing). On these days we would consume around 4 Eskom prepaid units/ day (down from 20). Since January this year, with the 2 additional batteries and the charge rate set @ 0.2C (80A), all the batteries are now at 100% SOC around 10:30 (on nice sunny days). Around 6 AM the 4 batteries are now at 65% SOC, when PV start producing again. My grid usage (according to the the SS app) are now right down to 0.3kW/day = happy days. What I have found, is that the mono panels are better/ more efficient in low light conditions, but on nice and sunny days, the bifacials will produce around 400-600w more at the same time (even though they are effectively 30W more powerful) I hope this helps in making a decision.
