Victron are typically pretty good with their documentation, this is the best I could find https://www.victronenergy.com/live/multiplus_faq Not sure if generators differ a lot from region to region, probably best to follow the instructions there are chat to a local dealer on some recommendations. What inverter do you currently have? Maybe that'll point someone to this thread with a similar setup to yours.
  3. Had similar issues, when a larger load/appliance switches on or off it'll still feedback back a little bit into the grid. On Victron systems you try and compensate for this by setting a grid setpoint, mine's currently on 50W and hardly feeds back. Saying that, I had my meter replaced not too long ago. I logged a fault with the CoCT, they arrived an hour later and I just asked the guy to replace the meter. No issues since. Ultimately the fix is to register as an SSEG though. Do you have any settings on your inverter to constantly pull a certain amount from the grid? That may be a good stopgap solution.
  4. I'm assuming the prepaid meter is tripping because the inverter is feeding back into the grid - have you checked your settings? Not familiar with the setup you have so not really sure where to start there. Where abouts are you based? In CPT there are different options to feed back, not feed back etc into the grid.
  5. Welcome to the forum! Similar thread here I can't talk much to Growatt, I can say that I'm very happy with my Victron setup. Yes it's more expensive, but it does everything I want as simply as I want, or as complicated as I want. They really are great systems, but buy what you can afford. Maybe we can point you in a better direction if you tell us what you're wanting to achieve with the system, are you wanting to be off-grid completely? Just have a battery backup system? What are your loads like? I recently got a Pylontech battery, very happy with it. Don't think Victron supports Narada out of the box, not sure what specific battery you're looking at either - just in case, go lithium now and don't even think about lead acid One nice thing with Victron is you can make it modular, so buy an inverter and battery now, add an MPPT and solar later, then another battery etc.

  12. Opted for the US3000, it was installed on Wednesday and I'm very happy! Thanks again for everyone's input and advice, these forums are great! I'm going to add a second in a few months and then probably move into a cabinet to add the third, potentially a fourth, pending how many panels I can add to my roof first.
  13. 42V is incredibly low, pretty sure that's dead flat? Your post is missing a bit of info, where the batteries charged properly? What loads where attached?
  14. That would stretch it a bit, I'd still need cables and want to find a cabinet to house these things so maybe I'm better off starting small with 2x US2000 and adding on. Which ones do you have? If I have a total of 4x US2000 that'll give me roughly 9.6kWh - more than enough to keep my house going for ages. I was initially quoted and was happy with SolarMD but stock seems a little scarce at the moment. That kind of put me off for potential replacements on failures, expansion etc. Also the Pylontechs can be installed into a cabinet, of which I already have one server cabinet with networking gear. Maybe I'm a bit OCD. Did consider this, and seems like a fun project but I have zero confidence in myself to do something like this. I may start off smaller by powering my homelab as a test bench with DIY cells.
  15. Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'm edging closer towards the Pylontech, waiting on a final quote. The clarify the budget, I already have everything, so R40k is for the batteries alone. I'm going off Victron's recommendation, which say a minimum of 2x US2000 for my inverter - https://www.victronenergy.com/live/battery_compatibility:pylontech_phantom#minimum_battery_sizing_recommendations Would that mean I need 2x US3000s? I've read mixed reports online about this. Thanks! What inverter do you have and how many Pylontech's in your stack? Interesting, thanks! I'm reading up on C ratings and can't quite wrap my head around it just yet. Pylontech seems a little more upfront about their capacity rating.
  16. The road to Lithium has been a slow one, filled with many decisions. The installer I've gone with to fix up my system, get it signed off by the CoCT and install Lithium batteries has recommended BlueNova batteries for my MultiPlus II 3kVa, specifically the BN52V-77-4k model, 4kWh in total. I've read good reviews for BlueNova, and maybe I've already made up my mind to go with Pyltontech, hoping that everyone here can help point me in a better direction. I can't decide between the two, both seem like good options. Victron recommend 2x US2000B, could I get away with one US3000? I don't have a lot of load on my system, at the absolute worst I'll pull 35A from the batteries, but I do like the fact that the Pylontech's can be easily added onto, for cheaper in comparison to the BlueNova's, and that the Pylontech's are rackable. My budget for this would be a hard cap of R40k. What would you choose? My aim is to eventually get as close to a 10kWh battery backup with the idea of buying now and adding on later. Other specs in my system: 6x 330W array, 1980W in total VenusGX
  17. Recently had a similar discussion, getting Lithium now will save you money in the long run even if it's slightly more expensive if you potentially need to upgrade your inverter. I'm not sure you do though? I'm not familiar with it, but does it have any settings to support Lithium batteries? It's easiest to compare batteries with Watts and Watt Hours - Lithium is already quoted in WH To get the lead acid equivalent you're already on the right track, AH * Voltage = WH In your case you're making up a 48V bank so the AH stays the same. 1000AH * 48 = 48000 WH Because you should only use 50% of that divide by 2. From there you can work out how long your loads will last etc.

    Git is quite a bit to get your head around, I can only ever remember git blame 😛 It depends on how easily you want to maintain the project, I'd look at doing something like this: git fork the original repo from ned-kelly Add your changes, the script etc Push/commit your changes to your Github repo There's much better documentation out there as to what I can recommend, this has helped me get started as well as GitHub's guides. If you do it like this and the original repo has updates you can easily merge those into your branch.
  19. I've run similar tests on my electricity usage, across two days I tried to have the loads the same and simply wrote down how many units of electricity I had on my prepaid meter. One day had the inverter with panels etc all running from 13:00 - 13:00 the next day. Then at 13:00 I'd switch to bypass and pull everything from the grid. Take some measurements throughout the day and compare. There's probably a more elegant way to do this, it worked for me. 29 units a day does seem quite high, what runs solely on the grid? Might also be worth while into looking at some data solutions, many guys around here have ICC software, or roll your own with some nice Grafana dashboards. That's a new rabbit hole all together though

    Useful script for sure, maybe it would be easier if you forked the initial project so a diff between the two is easier? How are you planning on merging changes from the initial project to yours?
