Growatt 5000 ES MPPT limited by PylonTech BMS?

Featured Replies

Good morning,

I have a Growatt 5000 ES connected to 2 PylonTech US3000C batteries communicating through BMS.

I have also connected 8 x 540W JA solar panels connected in series.

Everything seems to be working properly, but it seems the MPPT is limiting solar power input to 3000W. When more load is required, pulls from solar up to 3000W and takes the rest from battery.

My theory is that this is because the maximum charging current is controlled by the batteries's BMS. There doesn't seem to be separate settings to limit the charging current for the batteries and for general solar input. Any confirmation on this theory would be appreciated.

Following the above theory, an additional theory is that adding another battery would increase the maximum charging current set by the BMS (e.g. if each battery has a charging current of 30A, the BMS is currently setting the maximum charging current on the inverter to 60A, 2 x 30A. Adding another battery would increase this to 90A, 3 x 30A). Any thoughts on this theory?

Lastly, if I'm completely off the mark, any advice on removing the 3000W solar input limit?

Just to provide an update if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. Received the newest firmware from Growatt (040 06 104 and 041 06 104), which seems to have resolved the issue.

Will keep monitoring, though.

Sorry to slightly derail, what happens on your growatt when you exceed 5kW? Does it trip out or pull in extra from the grid?

It hard resets. You can't exceed the 5kW limit for more than a few seconds.

Setting 18 when enabled it switches to grid until the load reduces.

Is this not only applicable when overload on battery happens, ie. It switches to grid if  running on batteries  and the batteries can't handle the load?

Where the question was related to whether the Growatt can pass through more than 5kW from the grid if load exceeds it?

I'm asking because I'm still learning myself, not because I'm questioning your answer.

Setting 6 allows it run in fault mode when enabled it feels like it's going to blow up any minute, Ive seen 120% for a few times but i try avoid overloading it.

I have the same issue with Growatt 5000ES and 8 Pylontech US2000 batteries and 6kW solar. My firmware is 040 04 301. Where did you get the firmware update from? I need it also.

What firmware version did you have before you updated?

Got it from local Growatt support, after logging a call on the Shinephone app.

Awesome thanks. And no problems with the new firmware? What steps did you follow to install new firmware?

No issues so far, but only been running it for a few days. Follow the instructions included in the download.

Sent you the link they sent me. I used Internet Explorer to download it. Chrome doesn't work.

@JapieDieSkapie Would you be so kind as to send me the link to the latest firmware, I'm also presently running on 040 04 301 and 041 04 301, So far I have no problems but would like to try the latest.

Cheers.

I have 8 Pylontech US2000 batteries connected to my inverter. I noticed that the max charge into them is about 1285 -1300 watts never more. The max charge current on inverter is 25amps and I cannot change that when I select LI in option 5.

Do you have the .bin file? also what software version is it?

@JapieSkapie, what app did you use to open this .rar file? I am looking for the instructions also.

I used winrar, but I'm sure you can use any other took that can open .rar files.

It is in the.rar file, which you will see once you unrar it. It works the same as a zip file.

I can't comment on the US2000s, as I have US3000Cs, but the max charge rate is being set by die battery's BMS. I added two more batteries today and could charge them at 2500+W on the new firmware.

What .bin file did you flash the F2809 or the F030?
