DVM Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 Hi Everyone... Need some guidnance please? I have a 5kw Sunsynk with 12 x 270W panels connected to one of the MPPT controllers - works awesomely well! Wanting to expand my solar panels and want to check whether it is okay to connect 6 x 450W panels to the other MPPT controller due to limited roof space... Therefore the question being is/will it be an issue if the 2 controller inputs have different number/size of panels connected? Thanks so much!! Quote
Sc00bs Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 Nope, no problem at all, as long as you don't go over the maximum voltage you are cool. You obviously can't mix panels of different sizes on the same string. Leshen and werner.potgieter 2 Quote

Sc00bs Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 100% correct @mzezman , should have said "You don't want to" Will drop the amperage to whatever the lowest panels amperage is. mzezman 1 Quote

Perhaps we can expand on this. There are larger panels than 270W that have the same max amps even if the voltage is different (and Watts) and if used as it would be in series on a Sunsynk then not much if any loss in efficiency. Sc00bs Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 I found this guide which explains the complications of mixing panels with different values. Can be doner, you just need to be aware of the issues and select extra panels with the correct Voltage and Amperage values. https://solarpanelsvenue.com/mixing-solar-panels/ phidz 1 Quote
