July 4, 20224 yr Can these older type inverters use lithium batteries. The inverter I have is the model with the 4 kw solar input with the 145 volt PV input. If so do the BMS also connect to the inverter with a data cable or do you only do the battery type setup correctly on the inverter? Thanks

Yes, I run a pair of them myself on my home-made LFP battery. 3 hours ago, Namreh said: The inverter I have is the model with the 4 kw solar input with the 145 volt PV input. These don't have the hardware or firmware to talk to the BMS of the battery. 3 hours ago, Namreh said: If so do the BMS also connect to the inverter with a data cable or do you only do the battery type setup correctly on the inverter? You use Battery Type = USE and set about 5 settings manually. Search this forum for my chicken scratching table of values for Pylontech batteries. Some LFP batteries are 16S, if so, multiply the voltages by 16/15. For other lithium chemistries, follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Edit: these old models have the advantage of having patched firmware available. There are LFP and non-LFP flavours for the various types of lithium batteries. These patched firmwares fix the notorious premature float bugs, add KettleKomp™, and more. See this AEVA mega-topic. Edited July 4, 20224 yr by Coulomb
July 4, 20224 yr I use Pylontech with one of these inverters. When I bought the batteries I bought a cable that connects the batteries to the Rasp pi. so I could use SolarAssistant . USE program used for battery setup. In the cable pack there was also a cable that connects the batteries and inverter (Can battery to inverter Com port) . Can now monitor and do settings with Wi Fi and has been running for 3 years.
