August 2, 20224 yr I'm replacing my 2 old Axperts 5kva inverters with 1 new Sunsynk 8kw. I have 4 strings of 90v each entering my combiner box - 2 strings feeding each inverter parallel. I'm planning to change this and have all 12 panels in series, thus to have 1 string of 360v. The Sunsynk max is 380v. The problem is that I cannot climb on to the roof (due to old age and medical reasons) to change the connections. The question is, can I put the 4 strings in series just before the combiner box inside the house just above the inverter.? The reason why I'm asking, is the length of each wire of the 4 strings will now running up and down with the current to enable the panels to be in series and to reach the 360v. If it is done on the roof, the lenghts will be much shorter. I know the higher the voltage the less loss over distance, if I'm correct this will then not affecting or create great losses. I'm planning to later add another 12 panels, thus another string of 360v and will have an electrician then to install the new panels and to correctly rewire this string which I do want to change (create) now (as described above). Hi Cassie I think it will work fine, you could also connect two of your strings in series to make 2 x 180V strings and connect each string to its own MPT on the inverter. The inverter needs 150V on PV input to start up. It will be easier working at the inverter than climbing on the roof.
