October 21, 20223 yr Hi All, just wondering, I've got an 5kva Axpert inverter, ive seen videos where it looks like the output of the inverter is connected to the same plug circuit on the wall and they say it will work because of the auto changeover and switches in the inverter so, if you look at a wall plug for example it has a double 3 pin wall mount plug Which is connected to the plugs circuit on the DB board can you use the plug on left to the input on the inverter to power it from the mains and the plug on right to the output on the inverter to supply the whole house with power, geyser and stove will be off on mains. i know it won't charge itself but is it smart enough to work this way without running new cables to the DB as a temporary solution, i know this can't work with a generator as when the power come back you will burn the house down, but it's said the inverter is smart enough to do this. as it allows the stronger power flow. so the inverter can be kept on at all times so when power comes back on ive still got a house it's just really to run lights and for work pc and tv maybe a fridge for now till i can get it re wired as the DB is in the middle of my house in the passage and will be a good 10 to 15m from where the inverter is im looking to only use around 1200w max of the inverter on peak times and 200w to 500w Ave down the line can add the extra auto change over switches ect and run to the db to just have plugs and have lights on still need to get batteries for it as it too as i haven't used it in over 3 years and now want to ive attached a pic of the inverter and what the plugs are like as well as the auto change over switches / panel i was looking to get to add to the inverter output next to it thanks Regards Albert
October 21, 20223 yr Author i won't do it as i don't trust it that way. I'd like to add the auto change over and earth leakages etc. like the ac protection box in the pic for now, I'll just run it to my change over switch outside my house that disconnects the mains and can connect a genny or inverter I'll look up how to connect it to my DB then I'll get some wire and start the project
October 21, 20223 yr Ok, so I would advise making sure you have a surge arrestor on both in incoming and outgoing lines. Additionally, it would probably be a good idea to get yourself a neutral-earth bond since the MKS series do not have automated bonding when running off battery. An automated genset could be installed or auto-changeover to make for a more seamless transition but a sub-DB with specific points wired to it will also get the job done just fine.
December 19, 20223 yr Author Ok so im making some progress on my install, i just need a a few thinks to clean it up but im need help with the wiring as im sure there are a few ways to do this so ill attach some pics for thoughts. ive got the 5kva inverter that should have a auto changeover built in would be nice if power went off and i didnt know due to this keeping the lights and plugs on. dont need stove or geyser but i dont mind putting them off on the db ive also bought a prewired db for a 5kva inverter if needed. my cousin inlaw had the same setup installed but he needs to keep switching his change over to inverter as it keeps beeping when using kettle or big load instead of pulling it from the grid.
