February 25, 20233 yr I too have built one, however I decided not to sell it as I don't know the laws and certification for it. Would you not need to comply to some sort of standard to do so ? When we buy electrical equipment it's needs to be SABS approved etc, Do you not need some sort of certificate to sell to the public ? I think it's great as we need systems but if the brown hits the fan?

I think it's great as we need systems but if the brown hits the fan? It plugs into a wall socket. It's an appliance. The DB and earth leakage protect you. You can buy trolley inverters at Builder's Warehouse or from online vendors. If you want to wire it into the DB then certification comes into play.

Yes but don't those trolly inverters have a SABS approval to be an appliance. Otherwise can not be sold in SA. I am not knocking it and each individual appliance in this unit is approved but as one unit in what be be then called one appliance not need it's own verification for safety etc. Look no one actually cares and the SABS and any law people don't give a hoot until someone dies and they ask for it's letter of authorisation or whatever then it's a different kettle. I am not a lawyer but just being that difficult person as I too want to know the correct answer. We all know people need power so the above solution is fantastic.
February 25, 20233 yr Did a quick Google as too late for me to look for my other books: https://www.element.com/nucleus/2020/a-guide-to-gaining-sabs-approval Again please I am not knocking this but I too want to know more and these are the steps that have halted me
February 25, 20233 yr Author The ups unit that generates AC is approved by SANS so complies with RF laws then it leaves the safety aspecs of a generating unit when in pass through mode you are protected by main RCD when in ups mode i use a seperate RCD on the output. Like @Bobster.said it is an appliance using a 16amp socket. Dc side protected by DC curcuit breaker according to Sans 10142-1.
February 25, 20233 yr Author No problem @Superflyall good the generating unit is a metal enclosure the stand is wood. You could place the metal ups inside a cuboard. I have signed off COC's that the db board is inside a cuboard as long as it is at the right height an accessible. FYI Sans originates from SABS and are supposedly policed by DOL.

If that is outside of the area where you operate then there's no need for us to pursue this any further. If that area is good for you, then DM me please. Edited February 26, 20233 yr by Bobster.
