How to update firmware on an Axpert

Luis

Recommended Posts

This is the latest patched firmware 73.00b:

http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?p=66664#p66664

73.00c is being alpha tested. Its only change is more accurate reporting of battery current. It might be another week or two.

You mentioned software to perform the updates; everything you need software wise is in the zip file. You also need a Windows computer and a USB to RS232 adapter; all this is discussed in posts linked from the above.

If you are or may be paralleling machines, then you may want to choose a firmware version based on paralleling considerations, see this post :

@Coulomb - On an Axpert King 5Kva, does the main firmware upgrade (e.g. from 71.90 to 71.92) include the upgrade for the display unit/ bluetooth or is a separate upgrade required for these?

No COM ports seem to be turning up on the flash tool dropdown so I can initiate the update (PC connected to inverter using RS232-USB connector - I can see it in the Windows 7 device manager but it's not coming up on the flash tool - or on Watchpower for that matter) - any suggestions as to what I might try please?

Thanks :)

They are separate updates.

Make sure that you exit Watchpower; don't just close the window, use Exit from the system tray. This is all in the upload instructions.

Check in device manager for the COM port. If the COM number is 10 or more, the reflash tool is blind to it; I have no idea why. My two convenient COM ports on my laptop always come up as COM6 and COM10; I have to use the former, not the latter. So try plugging your USB to RS-232 adapter into different USB ports, if you have any.

If not, you might have to redefine the COM port number. For my Windows 10 machine: in device manager, find the USB to serial adapter under Ports, double click, select Port Settings, Advanced, use the dropdown called COM number to select an available number less than 10 (not marked "(in use").

Thanks very much @Coulomb - I appreciate it! The original COM port that was assigned was 13 so will try your suggestion above.

I've searched around for the latest display/ bluetooth firmware update for the King 5Kva on this site as well as the AEVA forums but have not been able to locate it - please let me know where I might find it?

Thanks again! :)

It's in the files section of this forum. I was sure I put links to them on the appropriate AEVA page as well, but when I looked, there is was... gone! (Thanks to Weber for that line.) I added the links again, then realised that I had put them in the index for the wrong topic; sigh.

Quickest now would be to follow the links in the AEVA King topic. Unfortunately, these are only versions 71.86 and 02.00; they are up to at least 71.92 and 02.49 respectively now, but these aren't readily available. It might be worth asking your supplier for the latest versions.

Hi All, after 5 years of using an RCT Axpert 5 K with 8 12 v 100 Ah batteries, 8 PV panels liked 2 x4 and a lot of problems I found powerforum.co.za. All the issues you mentioned concerning the Axpert like "back to grid" and constant mode changing seem to happen to my setup. I have played around to at the moment 12= 46 V, 13 = 53 V, Float (27) = 54, Bulk (26) = 56.4 V

If I change from Utility to SBU it takes first from the Battery until Battery is below 90%. It takes log to change over. I wonder if the upgrade would help.

Main CPU Version is 72.40, Secondary is 1.24. Then I cant make out what OSO means.

Any advice is appreciated but at this time I am broke

Hi Fredi,

I had exactly the same RCT Axpert. Upgrading to the firmware maintained by @Coulomb (and Weber and others) at this location https://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?p=53691#p53691 (actually that link is to the first post which is a must read to give you guidelines on the entire process). It made a huge difference to my system performance.

46 V is very low, you want to switch to grid much higher than that (say 48 V or 49 V). Using fully patched firmware such as patched firmware version 73.00e will allow you to use the higher voltages without nuisance changeover at higher battery voltage due to battery voltage sag (the KettleKomp™ feature, also known as battery voltage compensation).

72.40 is quite old now. I have two units of similar vintage, and they came with 72.40 also.

OSO (Only SOlar) is one of the options for setting 16, charger source priority. It just means never charge from utility. I have mine on that setting most of the day. That means I don't waste utility power charging the battery when the PV might come good later and make the utility charging unnecessary.  I change to SnU (Solar aNd Utility) at 10pm when electricity would be cheaper if I was using the time of use tariff. It doesn't actually charge from utility, unless the battery voltage is low. At 7am, a small computer sends a command to change this back to OSO. If it's rainy, I change the output source priority to Uti (Utility first), so the mains carries the loads and whatever solar there is charges the battery. When it's stopped raining, I set the output source priority back to SbU (solar before battery before utility).

Very interesting! What software do you use for this? I would like to do similar things. Would also like an interface to the Geyserwise to turn on the electric geyser heating when surplus solar energy is available and the batteries fully charged.

Hi, dose anyone have an updated firmware for Axpert MKS 3kva to try sort out the premature float issue? It’s seems Lila a waste to replace the unit just because of this issue.

If your batteries do not charge properly you could increase the float voltage. Setting a lower maximum charge current could also help, since the actual amperes going into the battery at bulk charge voltage versus the maximum charge amperage setting may affect when switching over to float occurs.
