Pylontech US2000B how to read data from them?

Greetings from Ibiza, Spain.

I'd like to ask, I type  sudo screen /dev/ttyXRUSB0 1200 and I do get a screen. Blank. I can't paste anything in there.

If I use 115200, I get a screen full of scrolling gibberish and no prompt. Any suggestions?

Were you able to solve this? I get the same error blank, unresponsive screen.

To connect to pylontech batteries

You need a RS232 to usb converter which is normally purchased. From the RS 232 you connect to RJ12 with pinouts as above.

Open a terminal port in your Mac OS or windows

make sure you are Sudo

Download a app called screen.. install

connect the RS 232 to the console port with the battery switched on first, then to the USB port of your laptop.  Check through hardware systems check the USB port address.. eg A10K282M

The Pylontech defaults to baud rate 1200 to start.

Type in the following command in your terminal command line

sudo screen /dev/tty.usbserial-A10K282M 1200

Paste the following instruction too initiate comms

~20014682C0048520FCC3

Push enter

Hold ctrl+a then type k then type y [to exit]

Type in following command

sudo screen /dev/tty.usbserial-A10K282M 115200

This is the baud rate for comms to console commands 115 200

Press enter twice

You will then have the prompt

Did you configure the correct COM port in the software? You need to look under device manager and use the same COM port that Windows picks up.

Yes, I did. And tried two different cables. No joy on that front as yet

No, but it looks like you did. How?

I had initially had the TXD and RXD cables the wrong way around. When I swopped them around it worked.

I used terminal on my Mac and after issuing the first command (sudo screen /dev/tty.xxx 1200) it gives what seems to be a blank terminal. Pasting the communication code ~20014682C0048520FCC3 looks like nothing has happened, but it has. You might even return a ? character when attempting to paste/type something again. Hold ctrl-a and press "k" to exit the screen session. Then you simply issue sudo screen /dev/tty.xxx 115200, hit return and you should get the pylon> prompt.

Is there a reason here everyone is recommending different software. I contacted Pylontech a couple months ago when I noticed my batteries wouldn't charge above 88% SOC, and they sent me some software called BatteryView. Why isn't anyone in this discussion using that program?

Anyway, just thought I'd chime in, because I've been dealing with this battery problem now for two months, and one of the batteries has finally triggered an "internal failure" alarm. These batteries are only 1 year old. They are the US3000 batteries. The rest of the stack seems out of balance too, but that's a different topic for a different thread.

My present concern is that I can't get the BatteryView software to connect. When I click "connect" it says it's connecting for a minute or so, and then gives me a timeout prompt. Well I got the only RS232-RJ11 cable available on the internet in this country, so needless to say, I won't be trying this with a different cable. I don't understand why Pylontech doesn't offer their own diagnostic cables for sale, so we don't have to guess what the problem is.

I just hope that the distributor is worth their salt and either gives me some replacement batteries or preferably just gives me my money back. These batteries, with their glitches after only one year, are definitely not worth the 2000USD they cost in this country.

Hi, can I change the max possible charge current given by BMS if I have 2 batteries connected in parallel? My inverter has a firmware bug and cannot charge both batteries if they are ready to accept 2x0.5C. Or is it better to connect Arduino between the BMS CAN bus and my inverter to override the value if needed?

  • 1 month later...
  • 7 months later...

I wanted to check in on my battery cycles but after I got this to work nicely a couple of years ago, I can't seem to connect again. Is there any easy way to get this done?

... not knowing enough... but with the can bus/RS485 port.

Can we not repurpose Kellerza's esp32 esphome code?

Thinking if the Pylontec's expose a RS485 port, then hopefully we can modbus prob the values ?

which mean we can push then as sensors onto HA as #1 option.

The other option is to do the probing via Python (running on RPi Zero) and package values into JSON  and mqtt publish it.

Hello, for those interested, for update us5000 firmware new chip. I tried the .zip but batteryview gave me an error code and systematically closed. This version is V1.7 from January 2024 Firmware-US5000-V1.7ST1.4_2024-01-12-152157_hofs then take the .zip but not having worked I only took the US_E3_V1.7_Crc.bin so it could not be used the US5000_V1.4_Crc.bin the firmware US_E3_V1.7_Crc.bin has passed and the version is V1.7 Now is my shift done correctly I don't know but it works. If anyone wants to give us feedback on the.zip to see if they can pass it to find out le firmware a été pris ici : https://www.zcsazzurro.com/fr/documentation/pylontec-box

Only the bottom Battery had fewer lights indicating the percentage of charge than before (as if the 3 batteries were not one because the percentage of charge must be similar in this case)
then 1 hour later everything was back to the same before therefore a percentage identical to the others.
Before restarting the batteries, the inverter had a voltage alarm fault and the inverter electrical inlet circuit as well as its indicator light were cut off.
Then after about 5 to 10 minutes without doing anything or almost "I just changed the battery first in the parameter" everything came back to normal.
If you have an idea.

otherwise, I had to change the PC because it did not want to connect, telling me that the com port was already occupied and even changing the physical port or modifying it by hand in advanced com port settings and restarting Windows: Same ?

Also to respond to the RS485 connection problem I had the case where in solar assistant I had modified the CAN port to RS485 and I searched for 2 days to find it on a DEYE, finally I reconnected in RS232/usb on the inverter via the raspberry where solar assistant is installed and by resetting CAN0, I managed to regain control.

so I am in RS485 on the BMS RS485 port with CAN validated and it works which is curious so be careful with each modification to check carefully after a reboot that everything works again because we quickly forget especially since the problem was declared 2 days later an rpi reboot.
