March 30, 20197 yr No, not for solar. I am gatvol of buying car batteries and them lasting 2 years and then dying. I don't drive so often so that is maybe part of the problem, but what is a good quality car battery that will last? These fitment places just fit the cheapest they can find, that sort of fits the spec. This is for a Landcruiser 4.2 diesel.

Costs quite a bit more (almost double) But usually lasts more than 5 years, at least in my experience. I've actually had good experiences with Deltec as well. The last one I had in the Diesel Corolla lasted 6 years. Of course it also depends how hard the battery works. The battery in the 'rola is a 668, which is the same one they fit in the Hilux. So it does duty starting a small 2-liter but it is good enough to also work in the larger 3.0 bakkies. Of course it will last better how I use it... 🙂
March 30, 20197 yr I had the same problem not driving a lot, every 2 years a new batt. Turns out the alternator needed replacing, as it was not charging as good as it was supposed to, leaving the battery under charged most of the time.
March 30, 20197 yr Might be better to connect the car to a battery charger while parked for extended periods. You can install a plug in the front for easy connection disconnection

The new sealed batteries does go dry after a few years. Remove the sealing tape and fill if possible .

The problem was not the standing, it was the shortish trips for the diesel engine, not recharging when idling at the red robots due to faulty alternator. Because I have a nickname of "Red robot" TTT - you and I will drive the exact same road, I get ALL the robots red, you get them all green, and I drive speed limit or slower. 🙂
March 31, 20197 yr Author I'll check the alternator, but I don't do short trips. Its 20km to town, so that should give the battery a good charge. I think I must install a proper digital voltmeter as well, as the one on the dash is useless.
