Can more battery current blow the inverter

Featured Replies

Good day everyone, my name is Jabu. I have been following  every conversations here.  I have 3KVA hybrid inverter. In the manual it shows that I can 200AH 24V, or 100AH 24V. My question is, can I add or make my current amp AH more than 200AH 24V to 500AH 24V. So I can have more running time without blowing my inverter.

Thank you in advance

Hi Jabu, welcome.

You can add as many batteries as you want with T&C's like how many parallel strings etc. But that is another subject.

The challenge comes in: Can the charger in the inverter recharge the bank?

Say you want 500ah battery bank, then you need at least a 50amp charger. (10% of ah)

Rule of thumb for lead acid. Charge current of:
8% of batt ah = leisurely charge like a weekend cabin used weekends only.
10% of batt ah = daily usage.
15% of batt ah = load shedding time, needs to recharge quickly.

Only a pleasure.

To add to what TTT said, the thing that blows things up is voltage, not current (the amps bit). As an analogy, the thing that burst water pipes is pressure, not flow rate. Adding more batteries improves your flow rate (up to the maximum power of the inverter), but does not up the pressure (aka the voltage).

Only important note: Always add a suitably sized fuse to the cable. A big 200Ah battery can push a thousand ampere if something goes wrong... then you want the fuse to blow instead of the cable... because when cables blow up they tend to burn down the house 🙂

Important is they must be of same chemistry (same type) and the same number of cells. However they may have different Ah size.
