June 28, 20206 yr Hey guys, Just finished our Pylontech US3000 install on a Goodwe inverter. What SOC do these batteries ship with? Ours was at 50% - would've thought for extended "storage" (or shipping from factory) one wants it charged up to a higher SOC?

June 28, 20206 yr Batteries are considered dangerous goods and sometimes shipping regulations may require that they be shipped half-discharged. If they are shipped by air (they may never be shipped on a flight with passengers), they must be half-discharged. Rules for shipping by sea would be different, and I don't know what they are exactly, but I would not be surprised if there are similar rules at play.

Before the stock could start moving the world wide lock down kicked in and i Guess thousands of these batteries got stuck in warehouses all over, long enough to drop from the shipped "60%" to your 50% rating. The reading you get from the BMS is an average of the batteries in the stack. I have connected each battery in a few different installations one by one and the difference between them is huge, connected together they give an "Average".

June 29, 20206 yr Be careful that your load does not exceed the max Amps that the battery can provide, it may affect your warranty. Ask the knowledgeable people on the forum how to "balance" your system in terms of battery power .... It was mentioned somewhere that for the Goodwe 5308, the minimum number of batteries required is 3.. I'm not sure how it all works, but I have installed 3 batteries and the system can easily pull 50-80A from the batteries, where 111A is the max.

Sometimes you just need a bit of "weight" to the charge and discharge side of things, to limit ripple, or to avoid the tendency of LiFePO4 batteries to overvolt when they are really highly charged. This is for example why Voltronic tells you to install at least 200Ah on their 5kVA axperts, and also why Victron tells you to put at least 2 x Pylontech racks in with a 3kVA (even if you swear you will "almost" never use more than 1.2kW for long periods...).
