Batteries will always get charged first, unless there are loads and "priority loads" is ticked. If batteries are full, then the inverter does not "waste" the excess, it will only draw whatever it needs, so if loads are at 600W, it will draw 600W (or slightly more to compensate for inefficiency). Agreed that technically it is wasted "potential", but as discussed before this potential can be directed to a smart load, like your geyser. The Sunsynk Super Hybrid is very flexible. 

If the panels generate more than 5.5Kw then you will have one of two problems: 1) either the voltage will exceed the 500V max limit, in which case it will probably blow the MPPT (volts are very important in array sizing), or 2) the amperage will exceed the specs and the MPPT will clip it. This is wasted potential. The 5.5K Sunsynk is (anecdotally) known to clip at 9.9A even though the specs state 11A and maximum DC input power is stated at 6500W. So does this mean I have to look for panels with 9.9lmp or less to get the max out of the pv array, the higher rated panels will clip?

Does this then also apply to the 8kw when using 2 strings per mppt, I see the max input 18Amp so its 9amp per string?

You've already stated that you want to oversize for bad solar days, so I'd recommend that you try and get the latest 8K Sunsynk with 22A MPPT to allow sufficient latitude with a wide range of panels / configs. The amps doesn't matter too much because it will be clipped by the MPPT, but voltage is critical, Sunsynk recommend not exceeding 450V per MPPT.

Alternatively you can wait for the newer 10 and 12K Sunsynks, specs and details may be available this week still.

Yes that's my plan to oversize think i will go the 8kw route, just need to balance my loads during the day.

I’m also looking for some panels for another string. I’ve come across some 78 cell JA panels. JAM78S10 range is around 450W and current is in the range of the 9.9A. Will work well for the sunsynk. I can’t seem to find local stock though. 

Okay i went for the 8kw with 22A mppt and 24 x 455 Mono = 10920W they are rated 10.84A so will be just in the limit on 2 strings. Not enough stock on the 410 or 415 pannels so best option thats in the range was the 455w. They will come install the brackets tomorrow then the rest of the stuff Friday and Saturday. Thanks for all the help.

When you get it post a pic of the label on the inverter. That max DC power is incorrect as it can take 10 500w of solar panels.

Okay i will as soon as it arrives.

If its not 22A it means i will loose on the production side when it clips?

He is coming to do installation tomorrow, he waited for stock on the 22A inverter hopefully he gets one.

What would be the max 455w panels I can add to this inverter and in what configuration? I now see that with the winter sun moving more to the north the neighbors tree will cast some shadow on my panels, and was thinking to add some panels on the western  side but not sure what would my max be ?

So everything is up and running now for about 2 weeks, seems to work great so far. after waiting for new stock the unit was also a 18.8A but i have seen the amps go to 19.9A how can i see if it is clipping ?

Put a constant load on it, observe the amps.

Some of the older Sunsynk 8K inverter MPPTs are 22A capable after a firmware upgrade, I have seen Sunsynk support confirm it on the Whatsapp support group, they first need to check the side sticker though.

Should i monitor the Pv amps, i cant see that it is clipping some days it idle for few minutes at 18.9 then some days when the sun comes through the clouds it jumps to 19.5- 19.9A.

How would they know? Is it from a particular batch or series of serial numbers? 

Would love to know if mine is included in this list.

Look at the graph of PV amps, if you have a constant load and clipping, the normally round curve will have a flat top instead.

Hrs the most useless support tech I've come across. Sent him a WhatsApp immediately after you posted and he still has not responded to my query.

@leshen sorted me out. He checked and confirmed that my inverter supports 22A per mppt and he is facilitating the firmware upgrade.

How do i get check and get my firmware updated, i have requested on the sunsynk whatsup no but still seems to be the same version? @leshenwould you be able to confirm my inverters max input also?

Got a panic call from my wife just after I left home as everything went off and nothing tripped on the DB. Told her to wait as I think they are busy with the upgrade. 

Everything seems to be back online again.
