Hi. Right at the beginning stages..
Welcome. When I started my journey, where I found the best advise was a site called solar advice: https://solaradvice.co.za/guides They really go into detail and explain a lot. You can read on the inverter vs battery compatibility, how many panels you need, etc as well here. Like you said, when it gets to batteries, everyone has their own way and comments. I went for Pylonteck Us3000c because of the 10 year warranty, 95% discharge rate as well as you can add more batteries when needed. The 5000's you are referring to only has 5 years. Regarding inverters, I personally feel that more KW is better because when your household or usage expands, you already have the capacity you can use, but then again other people will tell you that you can run parallel inverters etc... 8Kw Deye or sunsynk is perfect.

Automatic transfer/changeover switch
So if people are still struggling with this, this is what I have done. Dont judge my awesome paint skills as per attached. Keep in mind that I dont have an essential and non essential BD. Everything in my house runs through the inverter. I bought the following: 2 x https://www.robofactory.co.za/smart-switches/167-63a-1p-smart-circuit-breaker-with-monitoring-ewelink.html 1 x https://e-glow.co.za/products/ats-toq5-63a-ac-2p-230vac-tomzn On my Deye inverter, I changed the Work mode settings to "Zero export to load" Ran live and neutral wires from the "grid port" on the bottom of the inverter through a smart switch into the Source B (City power) on the transfer switch Ran live and neutral wires from the "load port" on the bottom of the inverter through a smart switch into the Source A (PV and inverter) on the transfer switch On the bottom of the change over switch 9The load port), I wired Live and neutral to the geyser. On the smart switch for Source A (the inverter), I set the timer to come on from 11:00am until 15:30pm. I will use the sun to warm up the geyser, so we will have hot water at night. On the smart switch for Source B (City power), I set the time for the morning between 03:00 and 06:00. Here I will use Eskom to ensure the water stays warm. Note: Even if the city power smart switch is on, the change over switch will automatically switch over to Source A as soon as the source A smart switch turns on. Hope this helps...

Geyser setup
Problem: My solar system is set up to run the whole house. Thus saying, I don't have an essential and non essential DB as I am running my geyser on solar during the day to ensure that it heats up while the sun makes electricity. Solar will heat the geyser up till 65 degrees between 11:00 and 15:00 and I will have warm water at 23:00 at night. When I need warm water at 05:00, there isn't any as I dont let the geyser use my battery power. Question: Is there a way I could set the Geyser up to automatically switch over to grid during the night to maintain the heat? I currently have a Sonoff geyser timer to switch the geyser on during the day. Is there a way I could wire the geyser to the grid along with the sonoff with the solar?

At this current stage I have 14 655W Canadian solar panels with a 8Kw Deye inverter. In a perfect world, I would obviously hope for 9170W of production power ,Which should never happen right? So why does my charts show like attached? This happened multiple times...

2nd Life Batteries
So when I designed my solar system, I was really considering going with the revov batteries for the price. I did a bit of research regarding the second life batteries and eventually decided against it for the simple reason that you dont know how those batteries were used... Investing in solar for 10 - 15 years, it does not make sense to skimp on the most important part....

Solar lightning protection
Hi Pat. There is so much debate on this, but can only tell you what I did.... Daisy chain all panels together with 16mm2 wire and run down to an earth spike in the ground.
