  2. My absorption voltage is 28.2v and float is 27.4v as per Revov specs 14.1v and 13.7v. Below nicely balanced pack, hope it stays that way. Again thanks guys @TaliaBand @Scorp007. The 2 batteries in series voltages is spot on and balancer between batteries is off. Battery 1=13.82v and battery 2= 13.84v half an hour after full charge. Cycled the batteries down to 50% and charged up to 100% then took the screen print below.
  3. Many thanks @TaliaBand @Scorp007 for the assistance. Sorry for the delayed reply. What an approvement to the balancing of the pack cells as i followed the procedure @TaliaBsuggested. I will leave it to balance for the next 2days or when the average is at or below 10mv. Below screen print of the balance. From 285mv to 30mv in 7hours. Again thanks guys.
  4. Good evening all, I purchased 2x100ah 12v lfp batteries around 8 months ago. They are connected in series with battery balancer for my 3kw system used in the visitors cottage. All is working well but have a concern about the 1 battery cell difference. Both where balanced up to a week ago when i noticed cell 1 was charging up faster than the other 3 cells and discharging faster. My system: *2 x 100ah 12v Revov batteries in series. *RCT 3kw 24v VMIII inverter. 4 x Seraphim SIV 460 Wp Mono Silver Frame Solar Panels. Below screen print of Bms. Help would be appreciated.   5. Sorry to butt in here. I think what @GreenFieldsis saying that there is a limit on all electronic devices. Remember current flow generate heat the more current flow the hotter components become. If the manufacturer specifiy short circuit current as 17 amps you must not exceed that limit.

  8. I could vouch for solar supply in Cpt i bought 10 x 550w solar panels from them and the shipped them to Upington nice efficient company.

  10. Thanks for this @TaliaB hopefully now the confusion between permanent and non permanent bond will be put to rest. Any IE or ME worth their salt would have known that an TNS are not to be converted to an TNC earthing arrangement after point on control,it is for years been the case and was always stipulated by Sans 10142-1. Now that the writing is on the wall for all installers and electricians, hopefully all the installations in the past with permanent bonds will be rectified by these installers and not just left as is. I would urge owners of systems that are aware that a permanent bond exist to contact their installers and demand that it be rectified as the coc issued won't be worth the paper is written on.
  11. Just an update on the 25.6V 106ah S-Volt lfp battery. The setup of the battery was a bit confusing as my electrician did not understand why the manual stated incorrect charge voltage as my understanding was that it is a 8cell battery not a 7cell battery. After much deliberation between myself the electrician and the supplier we figured out the manual was incorrect and is indeed a 8 cell battery with recommended charge voltage of 28v. See attached data sheet that is still not correct. So to anyone purchasing the 24v S Volt battery it is 8 cell and chances are good that the recommended charge voltage is incorrect in the manual.

  14. SWER distribution lines are used extensively in remote parts of our country as an economic means to deliver electrical energy to small customer loads, scattered sparsely over vast areas. These SWER systems are normally supplied from very long three-phase distribution feeders. In many areas of Australia, rural electrification systems were established by the State Electricity Boards during the 60s, 70s and 80s under community service initiatives.

  16. Bravo @TaliaB I am still trying to wrap my head around how to deferentiate between Mppt and Pwm charge controllers but i will leave that to you solar installers. My Fivestar 3kva is supplying power during the day without using Eskom power with setting SBU and OSO. During evenings when my load is minimal (120watts) my battery is charged up by 10h00 in the morning 🌅. @Steve87 Nice pics of your install at Wits University @TaliaBsent me through some pictures of your ATESS install and is twisting my arm to go for the ATESS instead of the 50kw Deye with FW HV battery. Very professionally done Steve and great workmanship you guys surely now your stuff. Just one question from my side at the moment my 3ph supply from Eskom is very unbalanced as i have installed maximum demand meters a few years ago on each phase that i monitor, would that be a problem. The biggest load is 2x 10kw centrifugal irregation pumps. @TaliaB has done all the site load requirements and 50kw should be in the ball park as i understand tha ATESS HPS 50 is rated for 72 amps on and off grid.   18. Exactly like you say. My Fivestar has been running well for a few weeks now no complaints so far. @TaliaB thanks for your assistance to iron out all the teething problems with my Fivestar 3kva. My 8kw Sunsynk that you installed is rock solid I don't even blink when we have power failures or load shedding. What an improvement 😁 my utility bill is also down quite a lot since the Sunsynk was installed. All the best for the new year to all the people out there and thanks for a great forum, rich source of information.

  20. @GerhardK83 Yes i ordered the SVolt battery from Solar Warehouse, received it within 5 days was shipped to Upington. The battery cables and all accessories was in the box. They are not scammers and will order from them again without a doubt. So far the battery is working flawless.

My Fivestar 3kva has 2 fans sucking hot air out @Gertjie 1) When a fan is attached on the top of a heat sink in "sucking" direction, the air enters fins (or pins) in laminar matter (at least relative to a larger vortex scales than fin/pin distance). As such, the boundary layer around heat transfer surfaces is thick, and heat transfer is rather poor. More, in one-sided sink construction with a typical fan, there will be a "dead zone" at the center with poor air flow, exactly in the place where the heat is generated beneath the sink. (2) When a fan blows into the heat sink blades, the output air flow is turbulent, and thermal boundary layer around metal surfaces is thin, so the air flow penetrates deeper into fin structure and close to metal surfaces, providing good heat transfer. And the highest [turbulent] air velocity is around the center of sink, where the thermal "stress" is highest. So, it looks like the case (2) has clear advantage over case (1). Unfortunately, there is one more factor, which is the fan performance under different surrounding conditions. Unlike blowers who are creating higher pressure relative the ambient space (and used in heat-pipe designs inside laptops), axial fans provide better airflow performance when sucking air out of a tighter space into ambient, so the case (1) has some preference here. On the other hand, when an axial fan faces high aerodynamic impedance like when blowing in, it can "short-circuit" itself and provide only little to no airflow. So the use of axial fan has some advantage in weak thermal case (1), while performance of the same fan is reduced by running it into a pressurized (but more thermally-efficient) area. So the case (1) has poor heat transfer but better fan performance, and case (2) has better heat transfer but poorer fan performance. The net result is "it depends", which includes several factors as fin thickness and spacing. And it depends on fan construction. There are three types of axial fans, tube-axial, vane-axial, and propellers, which can have blades optimized for performance in one or other direction. Tube-axial fans also have good pressurizing performance, and are used in blade servers. So the results may vary. Obviously, the best result can be achieved with a dual-fan design, where one fan blows in, and another suck the air out. In mining ventilation shafts the fans blow cooled air into the mine and on the other end hot air is pulled out.

Thanks @Kalahari Meerkat yes i did see that on the web page but just wanted to ensure that they do actually include the cables, i will contact Solar Warehouse and confirm that it is packed before shipping. I now of Pylontech batteries that was ordered and delivered to Springbok without cables just wanted to ask if it happened to someyone else that ordered the S-Volt batteries.
  23. Good afternoon all forum members, I am looking at the S-Volt 24v 106ah battery at Solar Warehouse for R 11.8k i think a very reasonable price. Just want to confirm do they come with a + and - cable as i see they have a special plug on the battery. As i am out here in Upington on a farm i need to know beforehand if the cables come with the battery. Thanks in advance. Derek.
  24. @Dal2000I recently acquired a 3kva 24v Fivestar inverter and i am pleasantly surprised so far. I run a base load of 1300 watts for the 2 or 4 hours during load shedding without a problem. I have 3 x 460w panels connected in parallel pushing 40 amps through the pwm charge controller in good sun exposure and the unit is dead quiet the fan switching on at 45°C and switches off at 40° with ambient temps close to 35°. It is early days it still needs to prove its worth but for now i am happy with the performance. I have seen the RCT 3kva in action at my brother's house and in comparison to the 3kva Fivestar the RCT is smaller in size and weight that let me wonder more weight might mean bigger heatsink and transformer. To me the overall built quality between the Rct and Fivestar the Fivestar wins hands down. My brother also complains about the fan constantly running and the battery charging on the Rct that almost never reaches the set bulk charge voltage of 28v but rather will charge just above float setpoint of 27.2v.With the Fivestar i have not experienced this type of behaviour as it charges up to bulk setpoint 28.4v then the current will decrease until close to 0 amps then going to float. Charge mode on the Fivestar is set to Solar first parameter 03 and Work mode set to Sbu parameter 02 and will only charge from utility when solar is not available and battery low setting is reached. So for me the Fivestar is exactly doing what it is supposed to with no complaints so far. When i get a chance i will post some pictures of my setup.
