Wesley.Davids got a reaction from Powerforum Store in MAGNETO 5.1kWh LiFePO4 Battery 51V 100AhIt was related to battery cell calibration; during testing, they found one of the battery cells had low voltage and advised replacing the battery. After installing the new one, they tested everything, and it worked. I believe they also had other clients to attend to in the Cape Town area.

Wesley.Davids reacted to MrSoD in Exceptional Customer Service from Magneto: Resolving Battery Capacity LossI had an exceptional customer service experience with Magneto when I encountered an issue with my Magneto Lithium LifePo4 Rack Mount 5.1kWh system. The problem arose when the battery State of Health (SoH) unexpectedly dropped to 85% overnight on the Battery BMS, resulting in a loss of 15% battery capacity. Despite this setback, the Magneto team flew from Johannesburg to Cape Town to address the issue in person, showcasing their commitment to resolving customer problems. Their expertise, proactive approach, and clear communication throughout the process were commendable. Magneto's dedication to customer satisfaction and their willingness to go above and beyond sets them apart in South Africa's service industry. I highly recommend Magneto for their exceptional customer service and reliable products.

@Wesley.Davids The issue is with the battery, cell #1 is going into under voltage protection as the cells are not balanced.
So you are being limited by cell #1 and therefore are unable to make full use of the battery. It looks like it might be a Pace BMS, in which case charge it up with the full voltage, the BMS should then go into OVP and should continue to balance while in the OVP state.
However looking at how imbalanced the battery pack is, this could take weeks or months or never balance fully by itself and may require some assistance for the cells to be balanced.
If it were me, I'd reach out to Magneto support. I would imagine they will just swap the battery out for you and give you a new one.
It could be an issue with cell 1 which is causing it to be imbalanced and at a much lower charge compared to the other cells.
EDIT: I see you have been having issues with this battery since you got it.
I feel you must push for a brand new battery. If it were me I'd push for a full refund and buy a different brand.
There is clearly an issue with the cells not being balanced and it has been like this for a couple of months so I am quite sure it will not balance the cells and fix itself. Good chance one or more of the cells is faulty or the BMS is just not capable of balancing the cells.

Wesley.Davids reacted to JayMardern in Battery SOCShutDown is 20%. The restart value you see there (35%) is when the inverter must power loads back on after being recharged; after the shutdown occurs. There's a nice explanation of this in this thread!

Wesley.Davids reacted to PsyCLown in Battery SOCWhat battery are you using and have you experienced this before?
Looks like a SoC calibration issue or issue with the battery (BMS or cell).
-
Wesley.Davids reacted to PsyCLown in Battery SOCBased off that picture I am going to assume the cells are not balanced as it's showing SoC at 100% but the pack voltage is only 53.5v and for 5.12kWh battery it would likely be 16 cells.
I had a similar issue with my Svolt batteries when I got them, however they have since balanced the cells and now I get a pack voltage of over 56v when at 100%
Although I have not experienced issues with the battery just turning off, even when the the cells were imbalanced so that is a bit of a weird one still.
Perhaps post some pictures of the cell voltages for interest sake.

Wesley.Davids reacted to AlexTZA in Battery SOCI was actually referring to the inverter side BMS screen, same as you originally posted. A bit strange the battery is requesting a charge voltage that is so much lower than that specified in the datasheet/manual.
Set the float, absorption and equilisation charge voltages to the charge voltage which is 58.4v according to the manual. Let the battery charge to that voltage and stay there/float for a few hours, or a day would be better. You could then switch back to lithium and see what the SoC does during the next discharge.

Wesley.Davids reacted to JayMardern in Sunsynk 5kva Battery power essentail loadOK so the manual indicates the DIPs are just for setting address (i.e. for paralleling), doesn't seem like this is configurable then. Could be a BMS/balance/cell issue - might be worth following Alex's suggestion in the other thread...
-
Wesley.Davids reacted to JayMardern in Sunsynk 5kva Battery power essentail loadThe settings in your screenshot are for the inverter; based on your settings, your inverter is set to make an audible alarm at 35% but only shut down at 20% (and then power back up when the battery has been recharged to 35%).
BMS comms/cabling looks OK since the inverter display matches the battery display.
But you’re right - the shut-down looks to have been triggered by the battery reporting 0%. It’s weird that it reports 0% when it’s supposedly at 36% though - could this be a setting on the battery itself? The datasheet seems to indicate recommended discharge being down to 15% - so a cut-off at 36% seems high… are there any settings in the battery menu (or perhaps on its DIP switches) that might affect this?
@MAGNETO RENEWABLE ENERGY Would you be able to assist by any chance?
-
Wesley.Davids reacted to Scorp007 in Sunsynk 5kva Battery power essentail loadYou just have to look at the cycles when subjected to 0.8C discharge and 0.5C or discharged to 50% vs 80%. These figures applied to the same battery.
-
What would be the purpose? What are you trying to achieve?
You don't have solar panels yet, you've said as much. So you can't replenish the batteries freely. If you do recharge, it will cost you more to re-fill then than what you got out of them.
Do you have a time-of-use tariff whereby you could charge cheaply at night to discharge during the peak periods? If there's no financial benefit, why not just keep it as a UPS on standby for when loadshedding hits.
You should cycle your battery once in a while and not keep it at 100% charge continuously, but loadshedding (un)fortunately solves that problem for us automatically.
-
Wesley.Davids reacted to JayMardern in Sunsynk 5kva Battery power essentail loadThe AM-5's do need to be paralleled with the same model unfortunately; but 6000 cycles (assuming I got the right datasheet) on your Magneto is still nothing to sneeze at,
They're also the same underlying chemistry (i.e. both are LFP).
So far have been extremely happy (it's 1C and we run/cycle it relatively hard; we've peaked at 4kW [~ 80A/0.8C] during load shedding), but at only 6 months old it's too soon to tell how it'll hold up long-term. LFP is meant to maintain solid performance over time but you'll have to ask me in a few years 😀
-
Wesley.Davids reacted to JayMardern in Sunsynk 5kva Battery power essentail loadDifferent BMS'es count cycles differently. Technically 1 full cycle for, say, a 5kWh battery, would be 5kWh charge followed by 5kWh discharge (100% in and 100% out); but different BMS'es may increment the count before hitting 100% (say, at 80% instead). It's up to the manufacturer.
Compare your usage to the datasheet of your battery model (for example check if this is yours - if so, it's rated for 6000 cycles to 80%) to see if the cost savings over the lifespan of the battery are greater than the cost of a new battery.
I daily solar-cycle my AM-5 because the 10-year warranty doesn't limit cycles and if it dies the day after it turns 10, cycling has still paid for itself - everything beyond that is a bonus!
