@robert pendrell, I might have a spare Seplos BMS which I understand is used in the Shoto batteries. Which inverter is connected to the battery as to determine whether the BMS need CAN or RS485 communications?

@PsyCLown, definitely not critical. In fact, I have seen a few occasions where the 'wrong / incorrect' comms between battery and inverter causes endless issues. My firsthand experience with 5kW Sunny Island and later 8kW Sunsynk which always worked very reliable just using voltage settings. A number of friends are using using voltage settings on 48V and 24V Axpert type inverters which also just work without any issues. For a DIY battery, using voltage settings opens up the choices of BMSs. I used 300A JBD BMSs (in 5 builds) and Seplos 200A BMSs (in 7 builds). Except for 2 of the Seplos builds which use battery/inverter comms, the rest are all running reliably using voltage settings. I don't want to hijack this thread so please start a new thread to further discuss or PM me if you need more information or assistance in sourcing a BMS/Cells/Enclosure.
