October 21, 20223 yr Good day, It is my first time posting here. So the other day I decided to buy the CBI Astute switch to replace my timer for the geyser. I have tested the switch by connecting a cord to the device and it all works fine. But when I connect it in my DB then it trips the EL and I don't know why. Any ideas what can cause this issue?

Installed 2 CBI astute switches to geysers. The one was connected inline to the geyser just after the breaker near the geyser. This is working with no tripping. The 2nd was installed in the DB. The neutral was connected to the neutral bar and the live after the geyser breaker. Every time after loadshedding when the power is restored it would trip the EL. If the EL was switched it would be OK until the next loadshedding. By removing the neutral going to the CBI from the neutral bar and connecting it to the GEYSER neutral breaker solved the problem. The geyser neutral is still connected to the breaker.
October 30, 20223 yr A quick question: are you sure that you have connected the Neutral on the correct neutral bar? If you use a Live from a circuit not through the EL and the N on a bar fed by the EL (or vice versa), it will trip the EL. Pls don't ask me how I know. LoL

LoL @VaalYes it was connected to the correct neutral bar. It is OK now. The owner was happy when I talked to him a few weeks later. Good point I will check if I ever have a problem again.
December 9, 20223 yr Author I managed to resolve the issue when I had a proper look at the wiring of the DB board. The CB's for the geyser and stove is not wired through the EL (I wonder how it passed the CoC) and that is why it was tripping the EL.

If the stove and geyser does not go through the E/L and were wired correctly they cannot trip the E/L. If someone decides to use an E/L for a main switch then it will always trip the E/L if wiring is not changed.
