Inverter repairs

Featured Replies

Please help .  2 Axperts running in parallel . Was running good . This morning after switching the 2nd inverter on , it worked for a few minutes then the breaker between the inverter and the battery bank trip . I Reset the breaker a few minutes later , trips immediately . Does anybody know a reliable service company in East Rand , Gauteng area . Hope this is not serious . No smells or smoke . Help will be appreciated .

  • Do you have 1 battery breaker for both inverters or 1 each?
  • What rating?
  • If you have 2 breakers can you switch them over and make sure it is an inverter fault not breaker issue?
  • Any visible breaker burning?

Before you go to all the trouble of taking in for repair make 100% sure that it is not a breaker issue which is very common.

Thanks . I have 2 breakers 63 amps . The reason why i suspected that the inverter is faulty is there was very little load at the time and when I did reset the breaker there was a flash at the breaker . I have removed the inverter but will do a test on the breaker . If you know a good supplier and maintenance guy it will always help in future . There is no knowledge and suppliers in Heidelberg .

Sorry cant help with that other than to suggest you go back to your supplier, mine are Mecer branded so in the dreaded event I would take them there. I do however have a spare on standby just in case:blink:

Maybe worth buying and installing another one while sorting out this issue, then you will have a swap-out available in future.

Thanks my supplier is not reliable . Have closed down . Tanks for the offer , we will cope . Running the other inverter,  no tumble dryer for a while . Will think of a swap-out inverter when budget allows .

I'd replace that breaker; it has probably suffered two ~1000 A clearings.

I hope it's a brand that has a DC rating; it's getting hard to find these in Australia as manufacturers race to the bottom on price and quality.

I'm afraid it doesn't sound simple; it sounds like the battery-side MOSFETs are shorted.

How old are the inverters? I assume they've been paralleled nearly since installation. Does your area have a hot climate? Sorry, I don't know South Africa geography well.

The faulty inverter is 3 years old . Added 2 nd inverter 3 weeks ago . The room temp not more than 28 Celcuis . Checked the breaker on 2 nd inverter seems fine . The inverter never work hard rarely exceeded 50 % of capacity . Sins adding the 2nd inverter maximum load  3500 watt . We switch the 1 inverter and utility off at night . This happened in the morning when we switched it on . Opened inverter no visible damage  .Thanks for your reply .

Hi

Did you come right? I work / operate throughout Gauteng. Heidelberg isn't too far.

Thanks got hold of another mainboard . Tested and no problems . I  will possible at at later stage when money available have the main board repaired . 16 x MOSFETs  and 5  x 22 ohm smd resistors gone . Will it be worth the effort .

I have an Ellie’s inverter 1440 watts. I’ve had it for about 2 years and just bought new Batteries that cost over R5000. I’ve plugged it into charge the batteries and new batteries not charging. Is there someone who’d be able to see what’s wrong with it in the Western Cape?
