Sunsynk app not reporting all data

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, apologies if this has been a thread before. I searched but couldn't find anything.

I have a 5kw Sunsynk inverter with the dongle. to report data to the app. but for pretty much the last year it won't report data 24/7 I might get data for one 5 minute interval and other times I might get data for 6 hours continuously. I have googled and searched as far as I can but can't find any similar issues to mine with fixes to resolve it. I also don't think my network is at all unique.

What I have at the moment is:

  1. An Asus router with a 2.4GHZ network and a 5Ghz network, The names of the networks are very unique so no chance of it being confused by network names.

  2. 3 wi-fi mesh units scattered through my house

  3. My router is a meter away from my dongle. both in the garage of my home

What I have done to troubleshoot is the following:

  1. Bound the dongle to the router so that it won't randomly try to connect to one of the other mesh points perhaps.

  2. Rebuilt my entire network

  3. Connected the dongle to my guest network

  4. Switched off my 5ghz network

  5. Went and checked various settings with terminal scripts against the dongle which I could find online and all is good and working

  6. Had my solar installers out with a new dongle (we couldn't test it that day since it was the day sunsynk had an outage)

    1. But I don't think it is the dongle since it won't work at all rather than sporadically

Attached is an image of my reporting today to show the issue. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Just provide a graph of a longer time frame of say 6 hours during a time that the PV would rise and drop like 8h to 14h.

That should indicate if there is a period that the dongle does not upload to the server.

@Verrayne
I love my sunsynk, reliable and has not missed i beat in over 5 years now.

As a long time sunsynk user I can categorically state in my opinion, the sunsynk app/portal/system/support is atrocious.
What started of as a re-branded deye inverter with a good reputation, unfortunately that has gone down the drain... especially in SA.
Maybe they just follow with good support where the demand is highest. They saturated SA in the days of constant loadshedding and now don't give a hoot about SA.

That's my rant of the year :)

Best solution is to get home assistant or solar assistant or something similar where you are in control of the data and never need to rely on some third party system.

That graph is from Midnight to 9 AM.

Here is the past couple of days reports.

What I just can't get my head around is how can it sometimes work and others not. If it was consistent I could find the issue and fix it. But it's so intermittent.

The guy who created solar assistant is my friend. Maybe that is the only route left for me. However, I would like to have the product I have purchased work.

With no data point for PV at 09h25 and 09h30 but jumping from 09h20 to 09h35 tells me that the dongle was not connected to WiFi. In order to see the different PV values which does change and normally not steady is the reason I mentioned to use a time frame where there is PV like the 08h to 14h period indicated in a previous reply.

I had long DEAD periods on my inverter which was caused by using a hot spot. The moment I was connected to a proper router on the same network this DEAD time was no longer present.

What was strange is this DEAD time varied a lot day to day. It was as if the dongle did not reconnect. Further at times it would reconnect after I switched off the hot point and on again it worked. At other times I had to reboot the inverter.

Example of data point at 12h and only at 18h after switching off and back on of the hot spot.

In your case you could perhaps try to use another WiFi connection and see if it improves.

@Verrayne ,

You can read an earlier post of mine, in order for you to make a better decision on where to go with this.

I think the OP has a problem more with intermittent operation than the way the actual dongle reports.

We have found other devices that also just stops working when using a hot spot instead of a fixed router. Unlike Sonoffs which looks for the WiFi on a regular basis the inverter dongle might not once it's lost the connectivity.

You need to try another dongle (for a few days) and monitor to see if the problem continues.

I had this exact issue, one dongle sending intermittent data, whilst another two inverters next to it were fine. Swapping the problematic dongle to another inverter took the problem with it, so it was the dongle. Tried resetting it, unbinding etc without any luck.

So the dongle would work, lights were on, but would report data very intermittently with hours inbetween, even when Sunsynk servers had no issues. If I remember the green light also flashed a bit strangely, would stop flashing shortly after being connected.

Called Sunsynk and explained, they said it's definitely the logger at fault based on the tests I did, so we did an RMA and it was replaced with a brand new one free of charge. I did explain the issue again in the RMA submission and mention the name of the guy who I spoke to on the phone, who had told me to RMA it.
