vethomas
Hello, I have a 5048-EM and even though it is specifically set to not export to the grid it still does. Right now pretty much everything is going straight back to grid even though there is a set config to not do so, the house is using not even 300w at this moment. After initial setup this did not happen but for the last two days it sends about 3kw constantly based on generation. I have reset this thing and set it up from scratch yet it still does it. I can tell by what my Efergy is reading, and by the SEMS portal information. I have the CT clamp in the correct direction too as it has worked fine in the first two days of being live. Any ideas? I can supply any kind of information required.

I have the same inverter and never experienced this. You might have a faulty inverter. Did you contact Goodwe support? Maybe you can try to set max export to another value and see if that works and then back to 0 again.

vethomas
I have indeed. They sent me to the people who sold it to me, whom I have no issues with. They just do not have time to tend to me. A friend up the road told me tonight that with his inverter (same one different place of purchase) he had the same issues and it was solved by a new firmware, not even the latest just anything newer than the one on it. Thing is though, that even though I know how to do the firmware on it. I am at risk of voiding the warranty and if GoodWe do not want to do it I am stuck having to wait for the place that sold it to me.

Who did you communicate with? All my issues I have addressed to: [email protected] have been addressed and solved within a short time
vethomas
HI, Thank you for your reply. I have also mailed him to, considering just doing it myself though. This is frustrating.

Mike
and here is another of my contacts. I dont see them having an issue with a firmware update, as long as you don't brick it, make sure battery is full and disconnect from grid and direct connection to the device via IP addy. but Jack (xui) is very helpful too [email protected] Gabriel Gandi Goesantoso Overseas Service Engineer GOODWE POWER SUPPLY TECHNOLOGY CO.,LTD. vethomas
Thank you. I might mail him too. I do not have a battery yet (backorder, or no one returning call for free monies) do I need to have a battery connected for the FW to update? Thank you. Thank you. you should always do the firmware update using battery - that is fully charged - you don't want a power outage whilst doing it. i went thru a firmware issue back in 2014/5 with the first batches that came to S.A. we had battery SOC issues etc, a firmware update in the end solved it as well as intermittent tripping. vethomas
So I got a response of someone who looped in the distributor stating that they need to assist. Which is shitty because all they will do is get on the resellers case, which in turn want to charge me to come out and will only have time in June. Herewith my response to them, am I being unreasonable? Hello, Thank you for your prompt response. As stated before, I am not a direct customer of Segen but a customer of one of Segen's resellers. Since everyone in South-Africa is too busy I thought I would contact GoodWe directly to see if you can either assist with a remote firmware upgrade or enable me to do it myself. I am doubtful that Segen will help me as it is their reseller responsibility to do this type of work. It is not common in my book to have to be caught up in a world of up and down mails for something I can technically do myself but I do not want to void warranty so this is why I am asking. I will be honest though that right now this entire experience has left a very bad taste for me, I understand that technical issues may arise with equipment I definitely do. But of the 3 identical setups I have been involved with the others have all had minor issues addressed with a firmware upgrade and were helped by this same method. Yet now that I am asking politely for myself I get all the issues attached to this mail. I sincerely doubt that I would even recommend GoodWe products to any of my friends in the market for a solution. In fact, I am considering just leaving my equipment off until I have cooled down because right now I am flabbergasted at what I need to do to get some basic support. Kind Regards
vethomas
Having said all that. what would the equivalent Victron solution be? I have 12x 335w panels in 2x6 up already, could go 1x12 if it saves for now. No battery yet, cause no one wants to sell me one GoodWe 5048-EM (4.6/2.3kw) My house uses very little during dire times so do not need much more than that. Thanks. vethomas
Thank you sir. I will keep this on hand should things get worse with the GoodWe saga. Also helps understanding the Victron stuff.
vethomas
Thank you sir. I will keep this on hand should things get worse with the GoodWe saga. Also helps understanding the Victron stuff. So I got some action from GoodWe and Segen, slow action but action nonetheless. Unfortunately the FW upgrade failed and now everyone has gone silent. I shall remain patient Ah yes, my battery has also been ordered so the system will resemble something decent once all is done. vethomas
So, this was only sorted last week. After MANY mails, calls and threats the dumb-ass distributor finally took it in for testing. Found nothing wrong with it but also could not find the EZ meter I sent with so they test with theirs. Luckily they sent a spare EZ meter back and when I opened the box mine was still in there, no one even saw it. (dont get me started!!) Anyways, turns out it was the EZ meter. I have had zero export now for 7 days, everything is running just fine. Will I buy another GoodWe product? Not as long as those knobs represent the brand in SA.
