@Coulomb The Mecer Tech returned an email and his reply was " The inverter capacity will stay at 4000W no matter the firmware update".

Well, at least I have extra values and equalization and its good to know there are firmware updates available.

So it's possible to update a 5 kVA / 4 kW (i.e. PF0.8) inverter to 5 kVA / 5 kW (PF1.0) with just a firmware update? And it's safe and approved?

If so, that's the first time I've heard of this.

I'm interested in the availability of this firmware update file.

Hi Coulomb, While I've been navigating the Q's and A's and contemplating upgrading my firmware, I have been given the latest version, 74.50 by the supplier here in SA! If you would like it I will send it to you with pleasure. This was modified 3 months ago. There are two files AxpertMKS5K74.50.rar and a .zip file. If interested please tell me how you would like me to send them.  They are about 1.5 Mb each.

I have not used it yet -wondering if my old laptop with Windows Vista will handle it?

Thanks; please see your Private Messages for details on where to upload it.

Yes, any version of Windows will run the reflash tool, the question is whether you have a USB to RS-232 adapter that will work, and does Vista have a suitable device driver for it. My guess is that it will be fine.

يوجد ملفان AxpertMKS5K74.50.rar وملف .zip.

Please share "PC software" for the Mecer SOL-I-AX-5M  5000VA/4000V inverter.

SolarPower is free and a CD should have come with the inverter (though the CD is always woefully out of date).

You can download it from https://www.mppsolar.com/v3/download/, expand Monitoring Software, and look for WatchPower. You need a PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), a suitable USB to RS-232 adapter, and the D9 to RJ-45 cable that should also have come with your inverter.

There is also a free monitoring program for Windows: http://www.multisibcontrol.net/

Most of the others require a Raspberry Pi or similar, and most are proprietary.
