Goodwe 5048ES not restarting after backup output trips

I've had similar problems with the Goodwe tripping while the grid was down, I was able to fix it by changing from general to off grid mode in basic settings in PV master (obviously making sure anything drawing a "big" current turned off).

As extra precaution I connected router to a backup system to ensure wifi remained on even if power failed.

My initial problem... and it pertained for the entire period I used the Goodwe... was that it solemnly refused to talk to my router (and NOBODY was able to offer assistance to make this right - in fact, my last comms with David Havenga was that he couldn't help me if he couldn't use SEMS). I never used PV Master, preferring the EZManage app but they were almost identical.

Yep. If the inverter can't talk to a router then it's not visible on the 'net and Dave can't do anything. As I said my early battle was to get the wifi reliable - but at that point that was just so that I could monitor the system and use the apps on my phone. But that was done and so later on when I contacted Dave he asked for the serial number and was able to push upgrades over the 'net.

So the wifi is a weak link. Really the supplier should fix that. The guys I bought from did - and it turned out to be important beyond my needs to show off to my colleagues at work.

I say "can't do anything", but at one point Revov offered to have somebody come out to my house and check all the battery related settings on the Goodwe. In the end this wasn't necessary, but the offer of service was there.

Thank you! This just saved my sorry arse. Changed to general mode in the morning and set on-grid DOD to 30% and off-grid to 90%. I tripple checked the values because this had bitten me before. Lo and behold, When my battery reached 60% during loadshedding everything switched off. PV Master showed off-grid DOD set to 40%! Damnit!

Anyway, your method helped get it on during loadshedding. Thank you!

Anyone have an idea how to make sure the inverter has saved the values? Secondly, when it says it needs to restart after settings changes, is it MUST?

Hi  @PilgrimToHyperion

Glad it helped.

Make sure you have the latest Goodwe firmware, mine is running 1242416 (apparently there is a newer version).  My system now automatically reboots if tripped after say 2-3 minutes, sometimes longer.  You can check firmware verion by selecting Inverter in SEMS it is shown right at the bottom.

I've registered as an installer and can now via SEMS modify the mode and  DOD, there is a thread below towards the end by @paul99 that explains how its done.

You have to save the values, in the "installer" setup I dont think you have to restart the system.  The other big benefit of the "installer" is that you dont have to log on to Solarwifi.

Connectivity with the inverter is is acknowledged as being poor, and you have to double check that the settings were passed on to the inverter.  I've sometimes tried more than 10 times to get it to work. Cef's utility also show the Mode and DOD but you need to shut the software down and reload to see if the values were changed.

I've also stated using eco-mode, and am able to squeeze a couple of extra watts from the system instead of clipping production at 4700 w

Was just upgraded to 1242417 and have requested to be registered as an installer. Thank you for the tip. I'm going to try and understand the eco mode settings in the other thread. Still seems a little overwhelming. Might come begging for help! :)
