swazz99jhb Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Hi I had a gas hub/electric stove installed. 40A isolator removed. The hub still uses electricity to provide the spark. (dumbest thing I've ever seen!) My question: Can I run 2.5mm flat cable to the hub connected to the existing 25a plugs MCB or perhaps 1.5mm to a new 10A MCB? Thanks Quote
0 Kalahari Meerkat Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Twin & earth? I see no reason why not the units power requirements is likely to be in the mA range, I'd imagine and only when the spark is produced. Quote
0 Paul Greeff Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I can't speak to the power requirements of your gas stove, however, the one we're looking at for my folks also has an electric spark and oven light, and is powered by a normal three prong wall plug. I would assume yours is the same, and unless it has other special features such as convection fans etc, it is likely the oven light and spark will not even register on your inverter. Quote
0 Paul Greeff Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Usually the isolator is located right above the stove, which is not acceptable for the gas COC so in almost all instances it will need to be removed, in my case in the main house (already done) and in the cottage out back (still to be done) once we get the new gas stove. 0 swazz99jhb Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 It is Bosch and yes it came with a 3 prong plug. This was removed and the hub and oven are running of the same supply cable from the DB. No idea if the isolator is some SANS/Electricity COC requirement , but the gas installer removed it. I assume if you want it, it has to be placed 200mm to the side. So just to be clear everyone happy that I should be able to run flat (twin + E) in the same conduit and then split it off in the DB to non essential 25A MCB for oven and into some essential load MCB for the spark. Reading some posts on other forums, led me to believe that it isn't that simple. A conduit shouldn't exceed a certain volume of cable. (think it was 40%). This is to allow for heat dispensation.
