AndewJ
I have noticed that the first battery on the negative side of the inverter corrodes more than the others. Is this normal?

Is this normal? Probably Electrons flow from positive to negative so that battery works the hardest when then bank gets charged.
DeepBass9
I have started noticing a bit of corrosion on my terminals, 1.5 year old bank. Is there anything you can do to prevent it? I've heard of vaseline being used, not sure if that is just folklore.

Corrosion is a chemical reaction due to the different "materials" being used together, i.e. a lead terminal with a copper lug. Even if the lugs are tinned the "tin" sometimes comes off on the inside exposing the copper to the lead. And then, sulfation also plays a role as it's "air borne" and the gasses from the batteries close to the terminals play role as well. Vaseline works, or you can buy anti-corrosive paint (normally blue and red spray paint) or even anti corrosive jelly (which is vaseline with some other chemicals as well) Chris Hobson
HeinTheTerrible
You can also use copper grease. Used it on VW's and Audi's when I was a young spanner monkey.
DeepBass9
That sounds like a plan.
Chris Hobson
Use to use an old 2c piece between tractor batteries and the clamp to secure the battery. Made a nice cheap sacrificial anode. Our new Mickey Mouse money unfortunately does not work.
