That article is typical of the brain-damaged nonsense that one expects from the bleeding hearts that has never demonstrated the slightest understanding of sound economics. For that you have to study the Austrian School economics, not the delusional fairy tales of Keynes and Marx with which the universities polute the minds of their fee paying students. If the bleeding hearts are concerned about how much fuel a private jet uses, why not object to the world wide practice that requires airlines to fly via their home port. The same is not required of ships which is at least rational and sensible. That gives cause to burning immense amounts of fuel quite unnecessarily and is only implemented because governments regards airlines as status symbols. Well SAA is a dismal failure in this regard. Also how many jobs did Bill Gates and Paul Allen create and continue to do by investing in new businesses. I would bet on tens of millions. Besides the super rich's assets are primarily in shareholdings in their companies, the price of which would drop like a lead Zeppelin should they sell it. Even if it was cash, it would be in a bank account and the banks will lend it out to businesses and others which will create more jobs. It may also be in government bonds in which case the government will squander the money and burden future generations with the obligation to pay it back.  If a. rich person owns a superyacht, building it provided jobs for many. Besides the rich are always the first to buy new technology thereby encouraging more production enabling us mere mortals to buy the same stuff later at prices we can afford. Let us see how President Trump fares with his plans for the USA. He can certainly not be counted amongst the bleeding heart brigade but may in all probability succeed in improving the standard of living of all US citizens, at least those who are prepared to work instead of living like leeches on the incomes of others with the government stealing it from working people and then dishing it out in the form of dole payments to the lazy. Enough said.

You're better off getting the Axpert with no charge controller then. Save a little bit of cash.

This is something many DIY'ers never check. Glad to see you calculated it Chris!
Removing one panel should do the trick. Keep them as spares or use them for another system.

One has to also allow for the start-up voltage spikes during especially winter months. In Bloem it sometimes goes as low as -7 C and according to Canadian solar the voltage can go as high as 44v in these conditions. 20 x 44v = 880 exceeding the max 0f 850v. Should one be rather safe than sorry?

    Hi Guys,
I have just completed the installation and just can't believe its done! Unfortunately it is already dark and I will thus only be able to switch on tomorrow morning. I can't wait and just had to share this with all you wonderful oaks out there. I have attached a few pictures to give you an idea of what I have done with the installation. I also have to thank everyone on the forum for all your assistance and support, all the good advice and just for being available at all times!!!! Without the forum I really don't think I would have been able to do it alone!  THANKS GUYS !!!!!!!!

One of my recent projects, the battery cooler box. The temperature in my garage easily reaches 35°C in summer - on average it is in the lower 30's. According to the T105RE's datasheet, any lead-acid battery should be kept at 25°C or lower and an increase of 10°C halves the expected life of the batteries. Therefor I decided to keep them cool...
The box is constructed from 50mm coldroom panels and is attached to a plywood base fitted onto an angle-iron frame with castors. The inside of the box is watertight and coated with stone-chip - the stuff used to coat the chassis of trailers and caravans. The compressor assembly is from an old ice-machine The temperature is controlled by a temperature controller bought on ebay - it is set to turn the compressor on at 25.2°C and off at 24.8°C The internal circulation fan is on when the compressor is on and switches off approximately 20 minutes after the compressor has cycled off. The air pump is controlled by a digital programmable timer and used to force air into the box and to force any gas build-up out of the box - the outlet still needs to be connected to a hose to take the gasses outside. Hydrogen, which is highly explosive, is released during charging and Hydrogen Sulfide, which is extremely poisonous, might be released during over-charging. Hydrogen is less dense than air and Hydrogen Sulfide is more dense than air and therefor the need for two gas outlets, one at the top and one at the bottom of the box. The control panel contains a battery fuse The shunt of the Vicron battery monitor is mounted inside the control-section of the box and the RJ12 connection is extended to the rear panel A 40mm drain connection is mounted on the side of the box in case the box needs to be flushed. The drain connection is kept closed by a lever valve. Swimming pool hoses fit tightly into the 40mm drain connection and can be connected to take the water etc. to the outside of the building, if needed. An Anderson connector for the battery connection is mounted on the rear panel

Just check the cold temp (ie 0 degree celcius) VOC of the panels in a series string and see if you still fall in the safe zone of the inverter.

Mike, will TCOC not accept the installation if an after market grid tie limiter is installed in between? I don't know their rules, but I'm curios to know whether those stand alone units, which do comply, will help with getting the whole system to comply if the inverter doesn't?

I'm not arguing about this. I waiting for confirmation from Renesola SA, I can't see why the exact same unit with a different sticker on cant be updated.

Yup.  I've heard that.  This first light will be the test unit and I'll see how it goes from there. If I have to go with a driver then it's no train smash.  I've gutted and cleaned the first unit a few minutes ago and now I'm just waiting on the parts.  David confirmed that they were shipped today... So I'll probably get them next week sometime.

Those 10w LED lights normally sell for about R45 each in a crate of 100. The R745 goes into the fancy box and marketing.

A grid tie inverter with an array that matches your daily usage to help with your electricity bill is a good start.
