Smart Air Conditioner

Featured Replies

Are there any air conditioners available here which can manage their power usage according to the amount of Solar PV available ? ie read existing Energy meter ( SMA ) and adjust output accordingly to maximise solar PV usage?

Not any that I am aware of no. What you maybe can do is use Home automation system like Home Assistand and a WiFi enabled Inverter Aircon system. You can then switch the AC according info from Solar in Home Assistant.

@NoordSolar You could automate it with Node Red using information it gets from the inverter, is pretty easy to do as long as you don't mind spending a few hours watching Youtube video's.

My Node Red cycles through my heavy loads based on a SOC, current Solar PV production from the inverter and from the smart breaker switches (current load on the breaker when switched on) that send power to the heavy loads i.e. geysers/Borehole/Pool etc. When one geyser is up to temp the load on it drops and it can cycle to the next load.

I also decide whether to switch the pool on in the morning based on solar weather forecast for the day in Home Assistant.

As long as the Aircon interfaces with Node Red/Home Assistant it would not be an issue.

There seem to be a few options as to how to do this

@NoordSolar I am using Sensibo for several aircons around the house and use the timer-function to switch units on/off based on when usually in the day I have spare PV. So not an actuals but rather patterns. But I can switch the units on/off via the app if I need to adjust

Thanks for reply - I'm looking for a different type of smart - that is Iwant to only  use solar power that's being generated in the home to power the AC.  So it must thrttle back when power low and increase power when more solar is available . They available in Europe

Very good to see these units being designed. I have only seen those with PV panels and drawing from the grid when PV is not enough. Boy today it is not needed for cooling :(

Hi... I am looking for guidance about aircon. (BRAND) Especially in the Air -BnB. It will be a 12BTU. ....and maybe our room. Our room is also build sort of back to back attached to each other. The house do have a 8kw inverter or is the Aircon with their own solar realy worth it? Pro and Cons.?

I am also using a Heat Pump for pre warming the geyser water.

I am looking for any advice how to use it optimal and Especially that the two is not on at the same time to put stress on the Solar Inverter

Trips if spike 7kw or so.

Thank you.

Dirk
